Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO

I pulled out my Dave Mason 'Alone Together' album a few weeks ago.  It's an awesome album!  True story... When I first bought that album was shortly after seeing Dave Mason in concert.  I bought two copies because it was wonderful music and it was about the first of its kind to be made of a marbled vinyl.  I figured that with the first one I would wear it down on my parents Magnavox console (this is all when I was in high school) and would have a perfect copy for some later date in life.  Well, I have a perfect copy of an original, first press, of Alone together.  It sounds quite good, even better than I had expected.  And the jacket is also in perfect condition.  And that's my story!
Cool @mammothguy54 !

BTW, I have the MCA heavy vinyl series copy re-mastered from the master tapes and it sounds great!
Butterfield Blues Band "Live @ Woodstock"  ROG/entire set recorded Aug.18 1969/ 6 am to 7:10 am
My mini-review. Lp-1 - Butterfield Blues Band @ Woodstock

The vinyl is high quality/quiet, just like all ROG lps are. What is unexpected is both lps are slightly off-center.

I set my expectations low for this record because of the less than desirable circumstances. So far, I’m very satisfied.

"Born Under a Bad Sign" takes up the entire side 1, except for a few announcements. The harmonica sounds clear and satisfying in the beginning of this song. Then the brass chimes in right in the center stage as well. The bass guitar is there too and not mic’d well. The organ is in left field as is the lead guitar when it starts in. After a few minutes though, things change somewhat. The brass goes more to the right. This makes things much better. I’m feeling very good about this purchase now. You got to turn this record up! Sounds really good that way. The grounding issue they had then shows up only in the quieter passages and isn’t a big deal for me. I guess Eddie Kramer did the best he could under less than perfect conditions.

LP 2 in a bit............
Lp-2

It’s a continuation from lp-1, things are sounding very good. I think Eddie got the mixing corrected early in Lp-1 and that really helped.

My main complaint overall is the bass guitar is not as prominent here as it should be and it should be put to the right instead of center.

I listened to Paul BBB "S/T" on Sundazed recently and I really was getting into this recording way more than that studio lp.

I recommend it given all of the known faults.

Now....Santana’s set?

No work trip would be worthwhile without a new record store and newtome vinyl!!

Revival Records in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
Great selection of new vinyl at very fair prices.
Used vinyl not so great selection and pricing a little high IMHO.
However picked up 4 classic rock albums that I have NOT seen in a store before so be too late tonight but will clean tomorrow morning and spin tomorrow night.
Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and Little Feat.
The Alan Parsons Project "Tales of Mystery & Imagination" MFSL/ Anadisc 200.
Dire Straits "S/T" from the first box. Yes, there is now another one.

Gonna put on my 45rpm version later.
Jim,

As you know, I sent them to Tim @ maze-audio. I had contacted him a few weeks ago with my needs and requested he contact me when he could do a quick turn-around.

They arrived today. Perfect!

The sound, well in a few words, everything is more well rounded/flushed out and more dynamic/extended.

The Mark Tunis ICs came with locking RCAs which I hate as they are a pain.

I"ll say his ICs with the KLE Absolute Harmony’s are a sleeper in the crazy world of high priced ICs.

I’ve read the KLE need break-in time. I’ll enjoy every minute of it.

Full disclosure:
I’m using my Deleund phono cable at the moment, which I love. I did have Tim modify my M Tunis phono cable with the KLE RCAs

@slaw In your opinion, is the The Alan Parsons Project "Tales of Mystery & Imagination" MFSL/ Anadisc 200 worth the prices it is now selling for (around $200 or more)?  I really like that album and have been considering it, but haven't been able to bring myself to pull the trigger at those prices.
I should say, you can get the MT ICs with the KLE RCAs. I chose to do it my way for personal information.
@big_greg,

I actually have the pp of that lp, have not heard it in 30 years. So I cannot answer your question

My feeling is with the MFSL, you’ll get a quieter presentation along with a deeper, more forceful/bass . This matters with this lp.

Steve
So far the MFSL/45 is more tuneful and provides more (meat on the bones). Same volume.

I will say, to achieve this level of performance with this lp, one needs to have a high level) system.
Tomic, I see you played "Oh Mercy" early this morning. That is one of my favorite Dylan albums. I don't think I've ever heard him sing lower than he does in the song "Long Black coat"

Yo La Tengo / Popular songs

Boxer yes, I have it on server but I made a stop at my local
stereo / record shop and they had a fresh stack of Mofi - had to have it :-) one of my faves as well
Slaw, Now I have Eels envy. Don’t have the Eels with strings album :-(

June of 44 / From the fishtank
Anybody else have any of the "From the fishtank" albums? I have 3 (soon to have 4 since I ordered the "Low" album of that series tonight). If not, & you can stream it check them out. The others I have are "Sonic Youth" & "Tortoise". All of them are great & a bit off kilter... just the way I like it.
@boxer12,  Eels "Blinking Lights and Other Revelations" box set included "With Strings"

I got to side C of Chávez Ravine and it sounded like the record had been played on a Fisher-Price turntable. It was all jacked up.

Moving on to Warren Zevon, Stand in the Fire.
Thanks for reminding me Slaw. Just ordered "Eight Gates"

Cake / Fashion nugget
Saw this album in a shop in Greenville SC many years ago. Never heard of the band but likes the cover art. Ended up being a great album!
@boxer12,

I love Cake....No vinyl though..

..........................................................
Songs : Ohia / Love Work/The Lioness Sessions/box

Fashion Nugget is on vinyl. I don't remember seeing any of their others on vinyl though.

I stumbled upon this site today. The Fruit Bats have released a complete cover of "Siamese Dream" on vinyl. Had to have it!
