Whats on your turntable tonight?

For me its the first or very early LP's of:
Allman Brothers - "Allman Joys" "Idyllwild South"
Santana - "Santana" 200 g reissue
Emerson Lake and Palmer - "Emerson Lake and Palmer"
and,
Beethoven - "Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major" Rudolph Serkin/Ozawa/BSO
slipknot1
Up now...Norman Greenbaum "Petaluma".

The album’ name comes from Petaluma, CA, according to the lp jacket, was the largest poultry center and egg basket of the world in the 1920’s.
Moving forward, by way of an insert on this promo lp, "Norman Greenbaum, single-handedly moves to reverse the acid and heavy-metal movements in rock and roll with the power of acoustic instruments and forthright lyrics."

I presume this is a summary of his way of life going forward. BTW, there is included inside the record jacket, several pages of life & times along with drawings of his life on their farm. Kind of cool and rare.

Here we go....................
The last recent acquisition so far.....

ZZ Top "Rio Grande Mud" London/pp

While waiting on that one to US clean....

The Julie Ruin "Run Fast"..........hold on tight....................
"Petaluma" is early Americana at it’s finest! SQ is excellent!

I’ve had that album pulled and sitting in front of my rack for a few days now to spin. You are giving me the impetus to play the darn thing......finally ;-)

I have not listened to it for years.
Brian,

That’s great brother.

Just curious, does your copy have the glued in pages of inserts?
Brian,

That’s great brother.

Norman Greenbaum - Petaluma. Reprise 1972

Brings back memories when it was in a more regular rotation, back in the 70’s. And yes, nicely recorded. And forgot Ry Cooder played on this.

Steve, is yours a gatefold with the various photos, stories, and cartoon drawings bound within the gatefold? All make it a very charming and complete package.

Edit: lol, I didn’t see your edit until I posted ;-)
All I can offer on Norman.

Spirit in the Sky was the single biggest disco hit in the UK period.

If ever the floor started to quiet down a little all any DJ had to do was put Spirit on and everyone was up dancing and singing along.

I have the single of Spirit, extremely well worn...... Lol.
Just ordered my copy of the new Kansas album, the Absence of Presence.

I had read a few online reports dissing it somewhat.
But I streamed it this morning and thought it was very classic Kansas sounding.
Not cheap but a must have for me.
Hey, Slaw. I knew of Kayak but didn't really know them well.

Rush - Permanent Waves 40th anniversary box set - LOUD - man this pressing is very good but this makes me feel old as I bought this record the day it came out originally.
@6t5_gto,

Just sold my Rush "Permanent Waves" MFSL for $92.00.

MFSL lps are/were a good investment.
@slaw nice! I think this 40th anniversary edition is my 5th copy of PW but I don't have the MFSL version. How was it? I do have a first pressing and the AP 200g version (which is excellent)
I must have listened to this record 500 times in 1980.
New (to me) tube preamp and amp sound killer with this record
Leon Redbone, Double Time. His most drunken album ever.
Doo wah diddie, happy Friday.
The drums and bass are just awesome on Gish, they come out really well on vinyl
@slaw Hello !!! still no James ??
i have been busy w taxes. Foot is good :-))

Playing some Freedom Rider stuff today, RIP John Lewis

Mavis Staples: I’ll Take You There...
Hi @tomic601 ,

I waited until the last day to do my taxes, first time for that. I haven't heard from James.
Book of Shadows 11 .... Zakk Wylde.

Just bought this from FYE today, reduced from $45 to $15, hard to say no!
Brought it home to find when I opened it that it was the LTD purple swirls vinyl edition, sweet.

Then my daughter made me proud.
I showed her it as she likes cool looking vinyl and was about to explain who he was when she said,. "Oh yeah Zakk is the guitarist dude for Ozzy"
Chip off the old block 😂😁
@6t5_gto,

The reason I sold the MFSL "Permanent Waves" was it was inferior in SQ to my period pressing. Did you get your second system set up yet?
Eagles 'Their Greatest Hits '71 - '75"  remastered from original analog masters
We have a large indoor record show here tomorrow and I sort of really want to go.
On the other hand I really do not want to be in a crowded room though.

😕😕😕
Got these in today:

Fruit Bats "The Ruminant Band"
Sarah Jarosz  "World on the Ground"
Sade - Diamond Life. CBS 1985

poking around my 80’s section of LP’s....obviously ;-)
@bkeske,

Last time I listened to Sade, I ended up pulling them all out to listen consecutively. Enjoyed every minute of it.
