Regarding the conversation about stylus cleaning last evening........important to note that I (and am sure others) rely on a record cleaning regimen. This has great effect on the every day life of a stylus. A few years ago, I use to get black grunge on my Zerodust when using my steaming method and my AudioDesk. Moving forward....I get nothing but the white dust from being in a normal listening environment showing up on the blue-tac.
Slaw
I totally agree on the record cleaning although I am nowhere near as diligent as yourself.
But I hardly see anything on my Onzow or ME lately.

Re. Shunyata.

My SR Blue duplex feeds the Hydra2 via Copperhead cable.
This feeds the Hydra8 via Diamondback which feeds all of the main gear.
The other Hydra2 receptacle feeds a cheap power strip that feeds my Rega mono table, subs and network switch.
May look for a Hydra4 to replace that.

BLACK BLACK background!
Everything seems tighter and denser if that makes sense. Powerful?
Thanks for responding Uber.

When I used the Copperheads years ago, (actually two of them on my Parasound HCA 3500, required two PCs), I didn’t like them. The Copperhead and the helix cords are totally different designs.
Anyway, I’m thrilled that you’re having positive results brother!!

If I could be so bold, look for some used Typans.
Slaw
Yes the Copperhead is an older design and will likely be replaced as/ when funds allow.

Interesting observation on this last Dylan record from the mono box set.
All of the previous records from the set have been very clear and sparkling.
This Harding seems recessed, a little dull.
Still good just noticeably different to the rest.
Hopefully all our worries about James are unfounded

i am back in California- not really doing any critical listening- just too much background noise w beach traffic and fireworks and street miscreants late into the wee hours...

Slaw - I have been listening to Rays’ new work Monovision and the LP is also here, gotta clean it !!!!

so far I really like it but I am a big Ray fan...
Uber - slight corrosion and Florida are inclusive !!! No extra charge !!!!
Thanks Tomic😂😂

Slaw.
That might be it but the whole recording just seems to not have the sparkle and edge that the previous records did.
No matter.

Moving forward......

Time Exposure ..... Stanley Clarke.
Well, I’m being very dilligent this 4th, as last year my neighbor had a fireworks extravaganza. I woke up to fireworks debre all over my car/burn marks.
Just cracked the seal on the new Shelby Lynne album. Was totally surprised at her new ’look’. A short spiked hair dew. Giving the middle finger. It’s on CLEAR heavy vinyl.

What’s up with that?! Well, I’ll just have to listen.

In the mean time, Shelby just went from number 1 to number 10 on my speed dial.
I think I would have had some deep serious meaningful words with " the neighbour"........
I thought clear vinyl was supposed to be one of the worst for SQ?
Due to no pigment?
Or do I have it backasswards??
🙄🙄
uber,

You are ABSOLUTELY correct!

They are from ’south of the border descent’, did not seem to be a problem, as no remorse forthcoming. Believe me, I didn’t let them off the hook, so to speak!!! Took pictures (all documented). Have a loong history.
Jim,

Since you made us aware Allison was part of the family, I'll defer any comments.
Well if clear vinyl is good I wonder why more records are not clear?

I really do not know the composition of record mix vinyl but I work in the plastics engineering field and......

Clear plastic is a lot cheaper than ANY coloured plastic due to no masterbatch being added for colour. White plastic is actually pretty spendy as they use TiO2 for white colour.
Black just uses carbon black but still a cost factor.
Uber,

This topic is well known and previously discussed in the past.

Now, supposedly, it’s no longer an issue.
I need read up on vinyl mix.
If clear records were cheapest to make then they all would be clear..... Lol.

It's not a subject I have had any discussion in previously.

No big deal ,just curious.

I know clear records don't work on old Technics linear tracker TT.😂😂
I think you're taking my posts wrong buddy.

I've long called for an industry standard vinyl formulation.

( If adding a black pigment affects SQ, I'm against it}

I don't know what the natural color of PVCL is.

I've called for an industry standard. Why would anyone be against this????
I own that clear vinyl DF, while it isn't his best output, there are several songs I really like. Never had a problem with the vinyl pressing/quality.
One given for clear vinyl is that it is softer than it's black vinyl cousin.
So easier to damage and will wear out faster.
Those are facts.
Carbon black is the universal Black pigment used to colour nearly all variants of plastics of which PVC is one.
Carbon black as well as adding the black colour also adds a lot of strength and resilience to the record .

And we now return you to your regular programming......
Natural colour of vast majority of plastic variants is clear with varying degrees of clarity and transparency.

Yes there should be an industry standard for sure.

Most interesting subject indeed.
More research will be done by myself.
Definitely not for a music thread, sorry!
Uber,..
Thanks for your insight.
A topic that is in need of more discussion.

Steve

"In Spite of Ourselves" turned out to be a more country flavored record.
Now the fireworks have died down a bit here I can play some more black vinyl ( can we even say that now?😂).

Waiata ..... Split Enz.

Likely one of New Zealand’s better rock bands.
Fireworks in full display over here. Drives the dogs nuts.

Weyes Blood / Titanic Rising
The new Shelby Lynne record just moved to the next one played. Not because of previous posts, just because it did not need flattening. Here we go............
Now, I just put on the Lynyrd Skynyrd Collection. I had no intention of buying it but my local record store guy is hurting and it was there so I said what the heck. I would have to say I am impressed for a new release. Crystal clear. Doesn't sound compressed at all. Happy with the purchase. My 2 cents.
Some great music being played here tonight.
Best way to celebrate IMHO.
Mind nothing for myself to celebrate, I call it " Loser's Day"
😁😁😁🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Just another fact , PVC pipe, used for underground/high pressure water lines.
Comes in white and green.
@uberwalz,

Are you a city planner for lack of a better term? Civil Engineer?
Slaw.
Nope
We make plastic extrusion machinery.
I travel around making the new multi million dollar installations work and fixing up older lines.
And a lot of training and r&d for better performance.
So a plastics engineer, although there is a lot more to my job than that.
I wear many hats!
Its all about the dollar.......
Think I mentioned "dollar" recently

The Shelby Lynne lp is awesome! Why she chose to have such a hard edge to her "look", I have no idea. SQ is great! No real dieveation from her recent output.
