+3 @campaigner8
I've just played Idiot Prayer once and thought it is an important album.
|
|
@jeffyerkey what did you think about the Art Pepper record?
|
|
@boxer12 Re: the 2013 Snow Goose. I reserve the option to add a more definite response when I’ve listened to it again but yes, I think so. It definitely sounds more like a modern recording. It’s not exactly the same music but it’s pretty close (weird thing really). The original is an icon and one of my favorite albums. I have 3 copies, the US OP, a US Reissue, and an early UK and all are, like Joel says, just ok productions. The UK is the dullest. My US OP is best I think. Been listening to it digitally for a long time as a result.

Right now listening to a song from my fav Poco album -- Legend. Song from the album that I am listening to right now -- Heart of The Night. Wow. IMHO. Such a well crafted song.

I can’t get enough of Nick Cave’s “Idiot Prayer: Live At Alexandra Palace.” Just Nick singing a double album’s worth of some of his favorite songs with just a grand piano. What do some musicians do during the height of Covid? They rent the Alexandra Palace and record a brilliant album with no one in the audience but the sound recording team. I love Nick Cave so much!
|
+1 @slaw "Hot August Night" has become one of my wife's favorite recordings. The sonic quality of the OP is reference level.

I appreciate your humor Steve. Sometimes I even hang your posts on my refrigerator with little smiley face magnets. 🤡 (Sorry buddy, couldn't resist)

My copy shows GAIN2 Ultra Analog.
Jim, that is too funny😂
|
check if it is the GAIN 2 mastering system on the new MoFo ( no vino needed ), i have a 1 step here somewhere…. still in shrink ( long story )…..
|
Just a guess, but I would bet that MoFi used the same mastering as when they released it as an Original Master Recording, and then pressed it via the 1Step process. It should be a bit quieter and possibly just a little more dynamic range. Just a guess, but probably not far off of reality.
|
My typing wasn't so good. I typed MoFo rather than MoFi. And "Are your comparing your..." rather than "Are you comparing your..." Let's see, Saturday and a glass of wine, and hmmmm... LOL!
|
Joel,
Good question.
Classic Records version was my former reference.

Bee Gees "Children of the World"

My copy of Snow Goose is an original and it's just so-so in SQ. Not bad, but nothing special.
Steve, I have copy of Carole King Tapestry that is the MoFo Original Master Recording. It's really, really good! Are your comparing your new 1Step to that, as well?
|
Hey James, Is the 2013 reissue of "snow goose" recorded better than the original? Mine is from "Passport Records"
+1 for Silver Jews, Steve!!!

J Geils - Bloodshot
Billy Joel - 52nd Street
Crack The Sky - Safety In Numbers
J Geils never could capture the magic in the studio that they did in concert. Peter Wolf knew how to hold a crowd. Though I had heard Billy Joel on the radio while working, etc I never really appreciated his music until about 10-15 yrs ago. He is a fantastic song writer. Crack the Sky has to be the most talented group of musicians to never make the national scene. Nuclear Apathy gets best in show on this album IMO

A good day of music Steve.

The Carol King 1step, blows away any other copy I’ve heard. Although, why didn’t it sound this good in its beginning?
|
Did someone mention Dave Holland here recently (or was it on another thread)? Man this is a great record.

I was referring to mono amps but I do agree with you on mono recordings James.
oh, i’m the disco king. of course you meant your mono-block tube amps.
