What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report

I enjoy vinyl and digital (lately, with recent changes, vinyl actually sounds better than digital to me), BUT given what seems an overall preference for analog/vinyl on A'gon, I'm curious what the non-vinyl "1/2" is listening to. I tried to see if this was a previously posted question. Did not seem so.

This evening for me, it's Genesis (definitive edition remaster) "A Trick of the Tail".

Tonight it’s The John McLaughlin Trio Live at the Royal Festival Hall from ‘91(?) Incredible recording on plain old Redbook CD.

Blue Note. Mono.
Direct transfer  to digital from original 2-track analog recording. Not remastered, never mixed.Outstanding.
I've listened to Amused to Death for decades (red book and SACD) and on some amazing systems of friends. In the past couple months I replaced my Emerald Physics KCIIs (with upgrades) with EP 3.4s to which I replaced the crap jumper wires with WireWorld OCC. Amazing as the 3.4s are, my room is ~ 35 x ~ 20 x 12. Front wall is 90% glass; rear wall is 3 sided glass enclosure, plus open up/down stairwell. Even with my EVS dual mono1200, I wasn't achieving the bass to play A2D again. Now, I have 2 old SVS powered subs (Ultra and Plus) sitting in a corner. I decided to plug them back in a couple days ago in preparation to play A2D (SACD), which I did last night. The sound was among the best Ive ever heard it. I was hearing much more 411 than I recollect ever hearing

Awesome story. A simple jumper cable can make all of the difference (sometimes). WireWorld is a fine product.

Happy Listening!

The Who, Who's Next - CD

I personally feel that the band as performers were at their individual peaks at this point in their careers. Even though they already recorded Quadrphenia which is one of my top ten favorite concept albums. The albumn art on Who's Next is also a classic!

This is the "Gone with the Wind" of music CD’s

The 1994 Sony Gold Master Sound "Super Bit Mapping" version, even better than the others, which are still very very good.

Free Life by Dan Wilson. Dan is a singer/songwriter, but not in the 1970's sense. He has had a number of his songs recorded by others (including The Dixie Chicks, from whom I learned of him), often becoming hit records. I understand he is also a member of Semisonic---whom I now have to check out, and earlier was in Trip Shakespeare.

The album starts of meekly---a mid-tempo song sung by Dan, not a great singer. But by the end of the song, it has grown (via excellent production) into a majestic powerhouse! Great chord progressions---with an actual bridge, an endangered song element---vocal harmonies, guitar power chords, etc.

Not a bad song on the album, all B's or better. I found a Mint- copy on Amazon for $2.79 plus 3.99 shipping. Sorry @slaw and @tomic601, the album has never been available on LP. ;-)

Goes to show, the saying "perfect sound forever" for CD 20 years ago, was a true statement, just back then no replay equipment could get that perfection out of them, till just in the last few years.

Absolutely! Phil took great pride crafting his and Genesis releases.
Good to read that you own a CDV 2185 copy as well.
