Seems you are seeing all the same new releases on Qobuz that I do Greg.
I added that to my favourite for later play.
Right now.
Absolute Garbage. |
J. J. Cale - Stay Around - Tidal. Wow! |
Tidal: Lux Prima - Karen O / Danger Mouse
Love this disk and have a lot of love for Karen O's singing.
|
Misfits .... The Kinks.
Qobuz hires |
Soul Symphony............The Three Sounds
Quobuz
|
No Dice .... Badfinger.
Interesting that these guys were about the only successful rock band signed to the Beatles Apple label |
Internet station FIP out of Paris (France😀). This station blows me away. Having spent some time in the broadcast booth, I can tell you their transitions/segues are crazy good. You will be listening to Janis Joplin and realize 15 minutes ago you were listening to Vivaldi. Wild. And the majority of their programming is in English. Once hooked, download their app so you can discover what you're listening to in real time.
A tip of the Rabco hat to a fellow A-goner that turned me onto internet radio WFUV, student radio NPR at Fordham U. in NYC. Contemporary pop/ rock mixed with deep cut classic rock!

N80.
Sorry to hear Uncle Sam has taken more than his pound of flesh!
I was fortunate I guess, our corporate policy is that NOBODY can change our deductions beside the employee, not even the IRS!
I was not impressed by Amazon ( the wife got it free with Prime). Not by its layout or the selection. They would have to improve it considerably for me to look at as a serious Qobuz replacement.
|
I hear that Amazon is coming out with a new Hi-Res option for $15. This will undercut Tidal significantly. I will consider it if I can find a cheap way to cut Apple TV out of my streaming set up. Cash is short. Employer reset my deductions without notifying me and the tax man has taken me to the cleaners. |
In the End .... The Cranberries.
Qobuz hires |
Absolute Zero ... Bruce Hornsby.
Qobuz |
This morning... Kate Bush - The Kick Inside, Albert King - Born Under a Bad Sign. |
Was streaming my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist earlier. Didn't have a single real winner on the list this week. Bummer......
Now streaming Rush - "All the World's a Stage", cause I'm feeling too lazy to put on the CD.... I saw Rush on this tour, between the releases of "2112" and "A Farewell to Kings". EPIC! Especially for a 16 year old farm boy from Kentucky.......

Born Under a Bad Sign .... Albert King
|
I use Amazon Music for streaming. It has a "Recommended" section based on your searches and your library. I wasn't all that impressed with it but have to admit that I'm finding some decent stuff.
Amazon is low-res of course but my streaming set up is low end anyway. I mostly use it to research and discover what I might buy next.
I'm also reading Robert Palmer's (not that Robert Palmer) classic book called Deep Blues. It has been handy having Amazon music because I have been able to find all of the old blues songs he describes. Very nice to be able to hear it and read about it at the same time.
Most everything else I find is here on Audiogon. Just today @slaw posted he was listening to JJ Grey on vinyl. |
N80 Just where are you finding these blues bands? Just by streaming searches or?
|
JJ Grey and Mofro - Orange Blossom. First time hearing these guys. Southern, bluesy, soulful. Not blown away but enjoying it. |
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Qobuz HiRes |
n80 if you peruse the "reel to reel" current thread you will find that recording on tape is a pretty hot subject there. My own experiments on recording at 7.5ips direct from Qobuz hires streaming are interesting, more body and warmth but with some slight loss of high end detail. Certainly useful for taming any excessively bright music!
|
JD McPherson - Undivided Heart and Soul. Some good songs. Not as good an album as Let the Good Times Roll but still very good.
From what I can tell he is serious about recording. Appears to use older analog equipment and records on tape for whatever that might be worth. |
Cake Fashion Nugget and Pressure Chief. Via my files.
|
Not heard Ruth Moody but will give her a whirl tonight at the hotel.
On my laptop of course! |
Ruth Moody - These Wilder Things. I really like her voice most of the time. There are times when she uses that breathless sort of slurred enunciation that was so popular in female vocalists a while back and is still emulated on the singing/talent competition shows that I'm not all that fond of. When she sings and enunciates clearly it is beautiful. |
@bdp24 : Will look up Gary Smith. Really into the blues these last few days.
Streaming tonight: Not blues but blues based JD McPherson, Let the Good Times Roll and bits of his other albums. Playing it for my wife and she likes it. He is coming to a really small venue in Asheville in late May and she wants to go so will try to make that show. If any of you are interested, look into the songs: Let the Good Times Roll, Precious, Its All Over But the Shouting, You Must've Met Little Caroline, Jubilee. These are a good introduction to him and show the range of his stuff. |
Greg I think that is an excellent summary and probably the reason I was hooked. As I said I could not quite put my finger on it but it is usually the first Rush CD I will pick up and play.
Very well produced as well, unlike some earlier efforts. |
Uber, it sounds like a return to some of their earlier work, but at the same time fresh and new. |
Greg
That is why I have that as #3 on my list of Rush albums, somehow it just hits my groove and gets right down to it for myself.
Glad you are enjoying it as well.
|
Listening to some Rush that I haven't heard before after seeing the Rush thread... Snakes and Arrows on Qobuz. I really liked it! |
Laura Nyro – Eli And The Thirteenth Confession - Qobuz
|
2112 ..... Rush
Qobuz 24/192 |
Francesco Diodati - Never the Same - Qobuz |
The Rolling Stones - Honk - Qobuz |
|
Black Reign ... Avenged Sevenfold.
Qobuz |
Had to share as I thought this funny. Ripping some cds I just bought at thrift shop using JRiver.
One was Seventh Sign by Yngwie Malmsteen.
Jriver described the genre as "Neoclassical Power Metal-Shred"
Say what?
Love it!
|
On to some Four Tet - Rounds |
I've been really Happy with Qobuz. I still have my Tidal subscription for now but I find myself listening to Qobuz more. I'm listening to Norah Jones Begin Again now. |
Great choice Greg.
Really enjoying the SQ of Qobuz after changing from Tidal.
They just need expand their rock catalogue a little more and I will be very happy. |
Jethro Tull - Songs From The Wood, 40th anniversary Steven Wilson Remix Qobuz 24/96 |
Reubent. Oh well that makes all the difference...lmao. My heart bleeds for you for the extra cost....lol Is it not wonderfull that we can still score deals like that on media even in todays age.
Enjoy!

@uberwaltz - Sorry, I miscalculated. They were actually closer to 15 cents each! I bought 80 hand picked records for $12. They had a sale on a few thousand records from their dollar bin. 4 for a dollar, but 2 free when you buy 4, so 6 for a dollar. Then they threw in a few freebies. I've traded off most of them for better records that I really wanted, including a couple of new LP's priced at over $30 each. So far, I've gotten $75 in trade credit and I kept about 15 of the 80. Pretty good run, but it took a lot of time cleaning, listening, cataloging, etc. |
12 cents each!
Holy Moly
Now that is the bargain bin buy of the year!
Congrats!
|
Joe Jackson - "Blaze of Glory" Album - Spotify
I picked up a sealed copy from a LRS in a batch of LP's that I paid 12 cents each for. Listening to it on Spotify to determine if I like it enough to break the seal, or just re-sell or swap it at another LRS still sealed.
So far, I like it. On the fence about keeping it, trading it or selling it.

Catching up on my Discover Weekly on Spotify. I've discovered so much good music on my weekly push from Spotify. Just heard "Big Black Bird" from Blitzen Trapper for the first time. Very nice. I dropped it into my discovered playlist for future listening.

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland - Qobuz |
@n80, God I love Little Walter! I have a copy of the Chess LP containing "Hate To See You Go", haven’t heard The Stones version. There’s a really good harp player living in San Jose by the name of Gary Smith whose album Up The Line (CD only) is super fine; I highly recommend it. Gary is very much influenced by Walter (as is Charlie Musselwhite, a mentor of Gary’s). Gary and I were in a band together in ’69, right after he switched over from drums. He’s been at it for 50 years now, and has gotten REALLY good. He plays around the Bay Area, and a has good little band the locals refer to as The Blues Mafia. Its members include a real good piano player by the name of Sid Morris, with whom I last gigged in ’08. Gary and Sid shared the stage at the very first San Francisco Blues Festival, in 1973! |
Little Walter - His Best - The Chess 50th Anniversary Collection
Hate to See You Go is probably my favorite blues song. The Stones cover it on their recent blues album Blue and Lonesome and they do a pretty good job of it. |
