Verum 2 - dac/amps, cable recommendations

Looking at two dac/amp options for my new Verum 2 cans - the Fiio K11 and the Hifiman EF400. Has anyone compared the two enough to make a recommendation for one or the other. Music will be sourced, via USB cable, from PC.

4.4mm balanced cable rec's greatly appreciated, as well.  Max budget for the dac/amp is $500, cables around $100. I'm also open to a 3rd option, too.

Fwiw, my ears tend towards a highly detailed, yet velvety-smooth sound. Not dry/analytical.

I don’t know about the two you mentioned, but I’d compare them to something like the Schiit Magni amp combined with the Modius or Modi Multibit DAC — I much prefer separates myself.  For a cable I’d do this — 6N copper and Neutrik plugs, and the Hifiman version with 3.5mm connectors should work with your ‘phones.

Just another idea FWIW, and best of luck.

I have owned the Hi-Fi Man for over 10 years with the same tubes and it is super dependable, its on everyday for long hours. It just works, always. I also use it to upgrade the sound (using the headphone output) for my Bose computer audio system, this makes a huge difference over using the analog output of the computers sound card.

Thanks Gents!

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Hifiman EF400. Great reviews on it and I'm sure it will be a good first step on the upgrade-itis ladder most of us climb!

I have tried outboard stand alone headphone amps like Teac, Atoll, Rogue Audio, and they have worked well with all types of headphones. You may want to try headphone cables from Hart Audio, they make excellent aftermarket cables that are real nice and don't break the bank.

I have had them make a set for my Verum headphones and they improved the sound of those 'phones in my opinion.
