For the type of music you listen to and the volume at which you listen, I’d choose the ATC SCM40 v2 hands down. Usually $7k new, Music Direct has an open box pair for $5295 that’d be well worth considering. I had the Venere 2.5 in my system on demo, and as good as they are the SCM40s will absolutely blow them away — especially if you like to crank the volume. Just buy’em. You’ll be thrilled beyond words, and you’ll have $$$ left over to upgrade your TT. Bonus!!!

Persona 3f might mate with mac gear used Usher be20dmd would rock with half that power. The ATC mentioned abofe JBL makes some compression drivers with 15'' woofers sound fun
These threads always devolve to everybody posting how their speakers are the best and you need to try them. Have fun and buy smart so resale covers the cost of shipping or things get expensive pretty quick. |
My speakers are the best and you need to try them. |
@wolf_garcia
Intriguing...yet not compelling. Need is a strong word and if there was a way that was possible I'd consider it.
Can you provide any details such specifications and logistics for listening? |
@soix Thanks for the suggestion - ATC wasn't on my radar!
@steve59 Thank you too...Usher and Persona weren't on my radar either. |
You left out an "as." And the answer is no...it was simply a factual statement that I now realize was sort of sad as you'd be required to use my ears on my head and that could prove to be difficult if not impossible. |
True - my grammar was horrendous. I appreciate your ability to work through it.
Instead of trying attempting a difficult if not impossible task. Would there be another option such as a duplicate of your speakers.
What speakers make and model do you currently listen to? |
Klipsch Heresy IIIs, which many believe are the single greatest accomplishment in speaker technology except for maybe the new ported IV version, which could reduce my IIIs to a penultimate status although I haven't heard those...who knows...they might be terrible. Also I recently read something where Alon Wolf explained why Magico speakers aren't ported, and although I only remember him saying that ported bass gets out of balance when played louder (nonsense, but hey, it's Alon Wolf), that made me feel better for about an hour. |
Very interesting, I have always experienced a change in bass quality as volume increases in vented loudspeakers, can you please share a link to where you read that? I do not notice any change in my sealed A3 (although I did manage to “bottom” them out on very loud orchestral passages, that came as a surprise, without any hints of stress, like I typically hear in other speakers).
|
It was a fairly recent review of a Magico with a little interview attached. I'll try to find it. |
|
@cygnusx8 my initial thoughts were used higher end Sonus Fabers or Wilson. I appreciate everyone’s insight. I am going to hunt for used speakers |

I think the B&ws would likely sound horrible for the music you are listening to and the PSB better. That price range Tekton Moab or Klipsch Cornwall 4. |
@mofojo thanks I am intrigued by the Klip legacy series yet completely forgot about PSB |
You can get a new Demo set of Cherry LaScala from Advanced Audio in Tacoma, boxed up ready to go for under your budget, I recall they were 35% ish off. Bob or Victor i have no dog in the fight.
|
PSB seems to be prepping to roll out a new line, so there are even deals on their T3 towers (new). Have seen them online for $5K (retail $7500 I believe). If you can find them used, even lower.
Klipsch would probably be good if you're looking for loud stadium sound profile (which it seems you may be). |
Thanks! PSBs are nice
My listening habits of loud music is remnants of teenage years combined with being a former field artillery guy :/
I recently listened to the Sonetto V and I heard a much improved versus my current speakers. |
Meridian powered speakers used are capable of high spl, low distortion and excellent bass. A used pair of 5200se or 7200’s around $10k will be amazing for the money then a 218 controller to feed them and you’re set. |
