Troubleshooting help

New to audio stuff.  I have inherited some Adcom equipment. I have a cd player, preamp and power amp.  There is a slight distortion in the right channel.  What is the best procedure to determine the faulty component?  Help please.

Swap input cables right and left to see where its coming from.  one device at a time

Good advice. I have an Adcom amp. For me, the problem was an old fuse. Easy to fix.

Does the static vary with the position of the volume control? Some older gear uses resistive volume controls that can get corroded. If there are any buttons like tone defeat, try those too, if the sound varies when you press them, then there is corrosion. DeOxit is a good solution for fixing those problems. I had an old Nakamichi receiver that had all of these problems and I was able to resolve the problems with DeOxit.

You should confirm you are't getting DC volts on your speaker outputs.

Plenty of YT vids.

If there isn't any DC blow out the cobwebs for a few days, see if that helps
