What you described as the dire warning sounds like it says: do not do what you would like to do. There is little difference between connecting the pre-out to the amp in and dong same with and equalizer. 
 

I certainly understand your quandary. 

Why not let it break in and see if you like the sound as is?

Every experience I have with an equalizer has been negative… as in reducing the overalll sound quality. So, yeah… just break in and enjoy it.

My experience is that equalizers are attempts at symptomatic relief… but which never works. If I think I need an equalized, I really need some room treatments or to adjust the speaker positions, or some component is not up to snuff.

You should be able to put it between your source and pre-amp/amp input connectors (like CD in or Aux in)..

Thanks all for your input.  To clarify, the point of the equalizer isn't to alter the receiver (BTW the amplifier section is a monster) but because of the room characteristics.

OP, Room treatments and system placement?

Don’t forget to employ the LAPC feature, optimizing the Technics output with your speakers impedance characteristics. The difference may be enough to negate the use of an equalizer.

Hauled a unit back from Japan yesterday.

most if not all dealers don’t have them in stock but can drop ship from Panasonic 

Exchange rate too favorable to pass. Less than 6k USD brand spanking new

hooked it up, calibrated LAPC and it’s been playing for hours using Volumio as source out of YG Hailey 1.2s.

all I can say is I’m done with audio for a while.

You cannot loop the pre out to an EQ and connected it to an input because the pre out of the R1000 is always connected to the output stage and there is NFB involved. That kind of slightly out of phase duplicate signal will indeed cause a loop and may end up with major oscillation.

@johnsonwu Hey johnsonwu, how do you handle the 100voltage equipments in japan? Are you using a step down transformer to use here in US? I am considering import one from Japan (the price is damn good...), but I am worried about the voltage input

New Technics is high(er) end, great amp, it’s beautiful - Grand Seiko of audio. I’d side with the no EQ camp, what is your source, Analog? If yes, try a better interconnect, silver via XLR. You really shouldn’t need an eq with a piece like that, even if you had the thing in a closet. Shame on Technics not answering you, it does appear pre in / amp out is one or the other. What about rec-in/rec-out?

Would that my ears were that good to tell the difference with interconnects.  The problem is the room which can only be dealt with (at least partially)  mechanically

(sound baffling--my wife would just love that) or electronically (the more wife friendly equalizer) 

I finally decided to route the CD through the equalizer--a kind of half a loaf solution.

Half loaf, fully baked..
