Tara labs burn in

I purchased a new one Tara labs muse power cable for my phono preamp audio research ref2. (20A plug) . At around 180 hours of burn in I am disappointed of the bass response. It has not the authority I was expecting especially compared to my previous one (transparent mm2x). In fact, the bass remains the same now and at the start of burn in period. On the other hand , mids and highs have shown great improvement
.1. Does the cable need more hours of burn in?
2. Does the cable show improvement in the bass after 180 hours of burn in? I think that during burn in period , you mostly get improvement in mids and highs and not bass.
3. Is it perhaps a wrong match with the phono preamp,

any ideas?

I have found that with cables, if I don’t like them right out of the box, no amount of running them in, sprinkling with fairy dust or, using Voodoo won’t make them sound better.  If you like the sound when new, then you will get refinement as the cables get run in.
Why did you get a 20 amp PC?

A Phono stage It is like a 60 watt, 1 amp circuit.
It will take a long time to "Break in" any PC. 1000 hours if there is silver I bet.. 2-400 with copper, just because of the size and the very VERY light load. Just for the record.

I don’t do business with people that "Burn-in" anything.. it’s "Broke-in" so you know...

Cables are conditioned (cooked or simmered) and broken-in.. NOT burnt in..

YUP I just burnt in my engine.. LOL no you broke it in.. Words Count..

Daisy chain it for a month on your refrigerator. Take it from there and plug it into your power amp it OR as a main PC for a cleaner or maintained distribution center. BIG LOAD.. not 60 watts, .5-1 amp load, MAX

Sucks the dynamics out of the piece. If there is bass to be had through a PC (kinda funny) heavy copper works to a point.

BUT in a Phono stage, a great #16-12 wire size. Constructs vary. A great silver clad PTFE in a weave.. tune it with the ends. Red copper, silver, gold, rhodium, la-te-da.. #16 is where I would start.. with red copper ends..
With top of the line terminals, 4 wire weave, shrink tube, armor and a 2 week cook... 60.00 usd.. I know it will sound better than that will ever sound... Probably a great cable, but wrong application. No idea what it cost either..

Who the heck sold you that OP? Take it back.

Regards..

i did not choose on my own 20A plug. Its the audioresearch ref 2 phono that needs 20A by construction.i have seen cables that i did not like completely just out of the box, but after burn in or break in (whatever you like to call it), changed to something special.
A pc can give the impression of restricted and lifeless sound when out of the box but should give signs of its quality. With use they can become better and better. How many hours it requires to full break in depends from construction. Your ARC may have a 20A plug but most likely would not need a 20A wire, overkill.
As a tubed unit 12-14awg would do the trick and give you back the lacking dynamics.
Check with your ARC dealer.

Petg60 thank you for reply. The ARC phono indeed does not need 20a, it is only the plug and nothing more. Do you think it may be a matter of I’m compatibility between the phono and this specific cable? If it is a yes, maybe I ll never get the dynamics back.

^^This!

Never, ever in all my life heard anything start out bad and magically become good. Got one PC right now, it was analytical etched hyped and lean in the beginning. No bass. Let it run in 24/7 and after a week or so it was not nearly so analytical or harsh but just as hyped and lean. No bass to begin with, no bass now either. Haven't done a survey but suspect there are a whole hell of a lot of em out there just like it. Why I am happy to stick with Synergistic. Never had a bad one yet- PC or otherwise.

Is it perhaps a wrong match with the phono preamp,
This is another one where I diverge from the crowd. There is no such thing as matching. One power cord (speaker cable, interconnect, whatever) does not magically change and go from sounding bad to sounding good simply by being connected to a different component. They are what they are, period.

What happens instead is a lot of people have components that have all kinds of faults in different areas. Which they all do. No such thing as perfect. Memorize this if you can, it will serve you well. The power cord (IC, speaker cable, etc) performs the same everywhere. But sometimes the faults are complimentary. Other times not. People confuse this and say its better with this or that. No. Wrong. It is the same always and everywhere. What you are doing if you follow this approach is using one fault-laden component to cover up another fault-laden component. It is what I call the band-aid approach. Cover it up.

DO NOT ever try and "match" components this way. Because if you do, then even though you might be able to get everything all bandaged up and covered over and sounding good, this will only be the case until you change something. Then your upgrade reveals all the crap you cobbled together with band-aids. Sound familiar? This is why we hear so many people talking about their new upgrade revealing all the faults everywhere else. If this doesn't sound familiar, hang around a while, it will soon enough.

Thank you millercarbon. I beleive that issue you mention with faulty components coverying other faulty ones. But in my case, I was using one power cable transparent audio mm2x on my phono with very good bass.I changed to the taralabs power cable which gave much better Sonics than the transparent cable but not regarding bottom bass. With the new taralabs things are worse. This is what I can’t explain

Easy to explain: the new taralabs cable has worse bass. Ditch that cable. It sucks. End of story.

The answer to your question  is 500 hrs, I have had numerous different Tara Lab's cable's since 1995, so yeah, I would know.
Have TARA Labs Muse speaker cable it is sounding wonderful after 200hrs I guess it will improve further after 300 or 400 hrs etc.
I love the sound of my TARA LABS MUSE speaker cable right out of the box.
