Try the tannoy eatons, you will be pleased...huge standmounts with fantastic bass, especially paired with Sugden A21se.....listening to my Christmas music as I type....ggggreat...

My brother owned Tannoy Stirlings and I owned Glenaire Tens.They are both quite pleasant sounding speakers but from my experience the Tannoy magic starts with the 12 inch DCs and 15 DCs in big wide baffle boxes.My suggestion would be a pair of Monitor Gold 15s in a 250 litre Onken or Canterbury style box.

Other than that the HPD 315s in the vintage Cheviots  or that style of box can sound excellent.

I still reckon Accuphase amps as good as they are will over dampen Tannoys. causing the bass to roll off early -which is why some people mention using subs.You need something with a higher output impedance -like a Dartzeel,A Sugden A21 or a push pull valve amp.Then you will get lovely extended bass.

My room is is part of an open plan living room/dining room/kitchen area.

The living room is 3.5 x 5.5m, but one side of the 3.5 is open to the dining which is about 3.5 square, with the kitchen behind that in an L shape, all with pretty high ceilings.

Can't stretch to the fyne vintage, but the vintage classic 12 and devore 0/96 are a similar price that i can just about afford.

It's not a dedicated listening room, so I think I'd do better for family harmony with two larger speakers, rather than 2 speakers and 2 subs. Do you use high pass filters for your tannoys or just tune the low pass so the subs only take over as the tannoys roll off?

Those are all good choices and good match for your e280. How big is your room? You mentioned about adding a bit more bass and depth, how about adding a pair of subs to Tannoy Stirling? A pair of subs especially REL’s will give you that depth and bass you’re missing from Stirling’s.

I am complementing my Tannoy Canterbury’s with a pair of Rel subs and Accuphase E-650. 

Heard the Fyne Vintage 12 today driven by Accuphase at the AVS show , stunning clarity, dynamics best of show beating out Kaiser speaker driven by Solutions  something wasn’t right with it. The Fyne looked beautiful, it’s a big speaker. The Fyne F704 along side it is a bigger speaker and sounded very very good, I would not be disappointed with the 704,s.
