@romney80....
Thanks for the kinds words.
Artificial ficus trees are not my original idea. But they are certainly effective in reducing room problems and one of the best bangs for the buck in acoustic room tuning. |
To expand on the use of artificial ficus trees.... They are diffusers, The leaves deflect sound rather than keeping a coherent soundwave bouncing off the walls. It breaks up and helps absorb the sound waves.
The ficus trees are also have much more WAF appeal than the typical room treatment. They are available from @home for a fraction of the cost of typical room treatments. |
Update: I finally got my monitor audio PL500II and the speakers are just wow, even new, right out of box. Amazing speakers. The mids are smooth and magical with addictive sound. Very musical with big soundstage (really big). Worked around with speaker placement and they got three dimensional. Oh my, they are one hell of a speaker for the money. You know when you hear, if it is real deal, and this one is, beyond my expectations. I am so sorry that monitor audio does not get much attention especially this world class speaker. I am a happy camper. Aerial acoustics 7T is a damn good speaker, and I was very skeptical if my new purchase will be better, but MA PL500II is winner for me. I am glad I made this purchase. |
romney80 I just saw you r response to my statement. I did not mean to state my opinion as an absolute guide to follow. To be more clear, since so many places no longer have actual stereo stores, I believe we must take others' listening opinions with the proverbial grain of salt, bu ttj=hen seek out a store or home demonstration, when possible.. An extreme example of where this feeling comes from can be found in the rants of how wonderful everyone says his system is on the Audio Review site. I am guilty of such. We all are to some degree. I did not mean to suggest that we ignore the opinions on Audiogon, especially since this community does have a lot of experience with many different products; however, we still need to be aware that many of us have not been exposed to a great number of products, and that we tend to like what we have. As James Bonjiorno of Great American Sound (Ampzilla) warned us: If we take six people with their own LP's and CD's to each other's homes, each system will sound best with the media of the owner of the system. I like to add: We buy systems to sound best on what we listen to, and vice versa. We are all biased, and must remember that. Good Luck with your search. Cheers

Congrats on the MA pl500's. The MA of old were too bright for my ears but the latest offerings, while I haven't heard them look to use a much better tweeter. |
@danvignau i agree with you on how people think their gears are best. Everybody is guilty of that. Also, the fact that there is no one speaker that is perfect, no matter the price, says that there is subjective component and preference for certain qualities in sound. And add to that, the hard earned money you spent, you get attached to your “buys”. @steve59 the current model is no way close to being bright. They are very polite and very true to sound source. |
How superior, and in what ways, are the MA Platinum II models to the original Platinum models? The original Platinums are starting to appear on the used market at much more affordable prices.

@mtrot I have not heard the older MAs. I have heard the current MA PL300II and PL500II, So, I cannot talk about the first generation PL models. I just commented to the post asking whether, these are bright and THEY ARE NOT. The MA PL500II, are very musical, very good bass, amazing soundstage, very good layering of instruments in space (like you are in music hall or opera), the best 3D imaging. They are on dark side, which I like. They play what you feed. All good recordings were awesome. Bad recordings are not made any better, it just plays them as they are. One thing I can say is, it is very coherent and musical. It does not try to be analytical or extremely detailed (even though it has perfect amount of details). I have about 30-40 hrs on these. Even from the first song, they were good. |
I am extremely pleased to hear your report on the sound of your new PL500IIs. I also was concerned, feeling that many Monitor speakers of old were too strident for long listening. Glad to hear that has changed.
These should be truly world class in their performance from what I understand. And with more breaking in they ought to only get better. Have fun! They are an awesome addition to your system. |
@musicaddict Thanks. Yes, with more break in, they are getting better and "opening up" more space and air around the instruments. This feels like an end game Speakers to me. |
You might consider the A.C.T. Evolutions. More technology then I could possibly discuss here but you simply need to hear them to understand how serious technical advancements when properly implemented can make a profound difference. Aaudioimport.com is the distributor and has models and pricing on his website.

@sounds_real_audio I have really appreciated the WB ACT technology and one of the beautiful looking speakers too. I was not able to audition them close to me and with my busy schedule, I was not interested in searching for them. I am now happy with my new speakers, monitor audio PL500II. My speaker search has ended. I guess I found my end game speakers. I am not missing anything with these. Thanks for everybody's input. it was fun discussing all about the speakers at this level. |
