I enjoyed the Carreras a lot as well as the Carbon 7. Also like the Salk SS6M, which, like the Carreras has a Be tweeter that is well implemented and will likely be clear but not bright with that lovely Sugden.
Speaker Pairing for Sugden A21SE
Just bought the Sugden A21SE integrated amp and would like to know what speakers pair well with it. My hunch is some iteration of the Harbeth C7 or another Brit monitor, though I'm also considering the Fritz Carreras. I'll probably buy used, and would like to stay under 3000, though I have a little flexibility (just a little). Thanks for any insights.
@anton99 I would love to hear Devore stuff. Definitely a level up, at least price-wise. I've not heard those ProAcs but given the markup one pays for foreign gear, especially British, I cannot imagine that model could compete sonically with the Salks or the Fritz. If anyone on the forum has compared them, I'd be curious to hear your actual experience. |
I have a black A21SE. I had it paired with the ProAc Tablette Anniversary. It was a very synergistic marriage. I bought both pieces from my friend, who works at a local dealer, that used to sell both brands. He moved up to the Masterclass Integrated, to get a built in phono stage. I owned a Pass Aleph 3 and Aleph 30 amp, in the past. The Sugden sounds very similar (GREAT) to me. Just make sure you pick a speaker it will drive to your satisfaction, in your room.

Well done! Get the marshmallows ready, she runs hot! Now I would highly recommend that you pair your Sugden A21se to some Tannoys. Mine is paired with the Tannoy Legacy Eaton standmounts with sensational results. Using a dual run (bi-wire) of Audioquest type 4 speaker cables with excellent results. Power cable in use is the Audioquest high current Thunder. |
I am very impressed with my Chartwell L6s and I’ve owned 3 pairs of Harbeths. Not saying it’s “better”, but I really like what the Chartwells do. I recommend buying from Gene Rubin in the US. Top-notch service. Any issues and he’s back to you within the hour. And I second the recommendation on Fritz. IMO they will stand up against Harbeths at twice the price. Unfortunately, some people can’t totally relax without knowing they have a “name” speaker, but that’s another issue. |
My nephew just bought the Falcon IMF 100 and they are outstanding. They are sold factory direct and the kit installation is a piece of cake. They are a true bargain! https://www.falconacoustics.co.uk/imf-100-completeathome-loudspeaker-system.html |
I just ordered a new A21se, probably won't see it for six months, I'm leaning toward the Cornwall IV's, but it depends. We're thinking of selling and relocating and it'll ultimately come down to the size of my new dedicated listening room. The O/93's are definitely on my shortlist, as well as the Spatial Sapphire M3's and the Audio Note AN-e in some form or another. Speakers are so room dependent, even the one that claim to 'not' be. If we stay, it'll be the Cornwall and I'm sure I'll be happy 'til I die. I've been living with the Cornwall 2 for almost 25 years. |

Currently listening to A21se Sig and Devore O93's playing Satie Piano Music on Qobuz. Its wonderful. I also have a pair of Spatial Audio M4 Triode Master that are also wonderful with the A21. The M4 when available used can be purchased for a lot less. Even though I have not had Proac speakers paired with my A21, previous time spent with that line makes me think it would also be another good match.
