I used UPS ’Pack and Ship’ successfully three times. You give item’s unboxed size and weight to UPS, (seller measures/weighs for you, or get maker’s size/weight data online).

UPS gives you an estimate, you decide whether to buy the item, then UPS gives you exact price when they receive the item from seller.

You pre-arrange with UPS, seller simply drops the unwrapped item off at designated UPS near them ’in your name’. Thus UPS fully responsible, protection in your name, no involvement of seller in any damage claim.

This is a way to buy an item from a seller who says ’local pickup only’ which is what I did for a pair of AR-2ax’s.

I shipped UPS, an amp from Vegas to Louisville and I packed the heck out of it.  The packaging was completely destroyed and the "FRAGILE" stickers were still in place, barely.  If you do ship, be sure that you have original packing or they won't pay on their insurance, when they do damage.  I ship LTL all over the country using different carriers and it all comes down to the packaging.  Shipping LTL things go from one warehouse to the next until it reaches you.  It may get unloaded by a new guy on a forklift that is still in learning phase or just doesn't care. 

You have 2 options, if they are worth doing.  Hire a hotshot driver that will pick up and head directly to you and make sure they are braced and packed very well.  Personally, I would rent a u-haul, if you can, and deliver yourself. 

Pack only in original boxes and use a freight company. OR agree to meet halfway and deliver them in your own vehicle. But always in original box with original packing foam.

size and weight?  UPS for 25 lb bookshelf.  Dedicated truck fleet for the wall of sound for the Who.  Other options for in between.

pack it up, put a bottle of tequila inside the box, ship it to Austria. Make sure the return address is in NJ. At the first dispatch station in Manchester, England they will scan it and find the booze which is not permissible. They will send it back and refund your money. And the speakers did a bit of sightseeing too.
