I love the kimber 8tc .. my system is krell class A rega,B&W.
Speaker cable recommendation
Hello all.
looking for some recommendations for a speaker cable. I know they are very system dependent. So here we go.
my system is as follows:
plinius 8100 integrated amplifier
musical fidelity cd player
rega planar 25 turntable
B&W P6 speakers
my interconnects are Kimber kcag, cardas neutral reference, and audioquest lapis
im considering Kimber 8tc, Cardas cross, signal cable, etc.
im looking for a bi wire setup.
thanks all,
best regards,
Shawn

Just be aware that speaker cables that have high capacitance could send you amp into an oscilation state that can damage its internals. Tube amps do not have any problems with high capacitance Kimbert 4tc will probably be OK, but I would research 8TC thoroughly and definitely stay away from the 12TC Cardas TOTL cables have extremely high capacitance but the rest of their lineup is OK Take a look at KLE Innovations cables - even the entry level will better most other brands mid line offerings Regards - Steve |
After trying many cables over the last 20 years from the exotics to cheap basic cable I have finally settled on the Blue Jean Cables. I just did not hear and noticeable differences in cables that were selling for thousands of dollars versus hundreds of dollars. I am sure many people will chime in with their experiences. Good luck. |
Until you figure out what you want, try the Blue Jeans Cable Canare 4S11 bi-wire setup for really cheap. They use welded terminal connections to eliminate the solder and dissimilar metals issue blah blah blah. Seriously though for short money you just might not feel the need the swap them out. I just put them in m system and I am shaking my head (in a good way). |
Here's some insighthttp://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm#introduction If anything, it's good to read as much as possible before opening the wallet |
I think with your speakers you will be very happy with the Kimber 4TC and not sure you’d benefit any with the 8TC as the 4TC is going to deliver everything to the lower frequencies you’re speakers are capable of. Just buy a single run, meaning not a biwire set and use jumpers instead at the speakers. If you’re buying direct from Kimber I’m sure they can make a jumper set for you or just buy a foot more cable per side and build your own. |
I actually have had this issue many years ago, as some cables are high capacitance. I can't think of the company, but one component mfg only recommended one cable company That aside, warm sounding tube systems tend to sound better with silver cables, whereas SS often sounds best with copper, which is 'warmer' sounding hth |
I have yet to hear the speaker cable (or power cord, or interconnect) that was system dependent. Every single one I ever tried had exactly the same effect on the sound regardless of where it was used. System dependent only makes sense if people think its a good idea to try and cover up one fault with another. Granted this is indeed what most people think. And do. Oh well. |
