Snell Type A speakers

What is the value of a used pair of Type A speakers. One tweeter is bad.

I have owned a pair of Snell type AIII since 2008 when I purchased them from the original owner who bought them in Monterey California. Since I've had them I replaced the mids, a tweeter and reconed one of the subs. They sound amazing. I agree with Jasonbourne52 about the "moneyphile" comment.

It depends on the condition. If they still have the original woofers they probably need to be replaced. Atomic Hifi in Ashland MA bought the Snell rights and does repairs including tuning. To replace just the tweeter, it’s $135. The woofers are $275 each.

Having the original boxes also helps.

I kind of agree that in as-is condition, about $400 is right.

There are a pair of A2's on Ebay right now in very nice condition for $400.00. So I would say the ones you are talking about would be worth very little by comparison. Just search "Snell Speakers" on EBAY and you'll see them.

They are wonderful speakers. A used pair could be an path to good sound for little money. I believe the woofer surrounds are foam which can rot over time so check them before purchase. Atomic HiFi and TV in Ashland Massachusetts has replacement drivers.

If you put some money into them, like replacing the tweeters and updating the crossover bits, you’d have a great pair of speakers, but to unload them as is, probably not much.  The A’s were my first big, non bookshelf speakers.

All the best.

I paid $400 for a pair of Type A’s. They belonged to the deceased original owner in Connecticut who purchased them from Audiocom in Old Greenwich (my hometown). I paid an additional $400 to ship them in four boxes via USPS to Florida. The Type A is still a top-tier speaker! If they cost five-figures the moneyphile crowd would love them! Too much of HiFi is based upon price and snobbery!
