SMSL PL200T AMAZING POWER SUPPLY UPGRADE

I had repeated issues with my Shanling ET3 remotes being extremely fragile, breaking at the slightest fall on a hard floor (a non issue for desk top users). Worse, replacements are hipping from China, in my case 3+ weeks, so I bought a SMSL PL200T, which has a USB input for an outboard power supply. I opted for a $119 iFi which was a very nice upgrade with 30 day money back from Amazon. As the free return was about to run out I saw they also have an Elite PS for $299, and curiosity got the better of me. If you can afford it go for it. Best $300 if you're serious about improving CD playback. I'll get into it later, just wanted to get this posted

Will you have similar glowing comments were to you buy either? That depends on your dac.  Mine is a very well reviewed Audio Alchemy DDP-1 + PS 5, recently improved by replacing the OEM umbilical with RAL (Revelation Audio Labs) cryoed silver umbilical. Between the 2, a bit more than the SMSL alone.

My torture  CDs include Jennifer Nettles Playing with Fire and Wilson Philips 2 vg examples of cds that sounded tinny and screechy. I went so far as to write Jennifer about my displeasure: which is no longer true. Finally, both CDs sound as I would have expected. Adding up the total investment, it's well within the cost of transports that I don't doubt would be hard pressed to sound as good.

Hi Tweak1,

I just bought the SMSL Transport, I really like it. I have Genelec 8330 montitors on my desk with a Genelec 10inch subwoofer. These speakers are digital with an internal AKM dac so you can run the SMSL through the AES/EBU output direct to the monitors digital input. Superb,

Recently I have been subscribing to Amazon Music but the SMSL Transport outperforms streaming via the Singzer SU6.

My upgrade has been the addition of a cheap GPSDO external clock. The one I have has 4 x clock outputs (these are very cheap). For my main system, I have a Gustard X-30; therefore, you can use the same external clock to synchronise them, resulting in superb results.

I came across your thread because I was choosing either the ET3 or the 2000T. Apart from remote issues, I am not sure which one you think has superior sound. I mainly chose the SMSL because it has the external clock option. I am very happy with it. Right now it's playing Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii. Fantastic.

Btw I Thought you may have got more feedback on this item, but maybe its considered a low status item.

@fast_mick  You should do a trial Qobuz subscription to see if the sound quality is better.  Years ago Amazon Unlimited was not nearly as good, but it’s free to try so well worth the effort IMO.

I don't know anything about the particular devices you mention here. But my experience is that power supply upgrades are almost always a nice improvement. So it's not surprising that it helped with this transport.
