One thing to be aware about Cary if you buy from a dealer the warranty starts the day Cary sent it to the dealer. If it has been sitting at the dealer for a year your warranty will only be 2 years not 3.
Since Dennis Had left Cary has the company built any new tube equipment?
I always thought of Cary audio as an excellent builder of tube based gear. But looking at the website nothing seems new on that end. Looks like they are concentrating more on digital. Is everything still produced in the USA or is the digital product built overseas? Always thought Had's tube gear was among the best.

Yeah...I've seen his "no reserve" items as I check his Ebay stuff from time to time…lately he seems to be doing the lower powered SET amps, and when I sent him a minor question about my amp (bought from the previous owner who said he hadn't used it), he said he was surprised the previous owner sold it, and welcomed me to the "family" saying I should now get an LP3 preamp, which I've never seen for sale in Ebay…you must have to cajole him to make you one of those. |

Dennis does seem happy…his current business model, other than the well regarded Dragon Inspire headphone amps he makes for Moon Audio, is interesting. He makes what he feels like making for his fans (who seem to be able to get Had to make preamps and other models that don't make it to Ebay), he cranks out his Inspire SEP stuff seemingly randomly and sticks 'em on Ebay with no stats, ratings, warranty procedures, or descriptions other than what's contained in his classic enthusiastic (and sometimes misspelled) product promotional rants accompanying his listings. All the Ebay stuff he lists seems to last one or two days as it's clearly somewhat underpriced for what it is. Refreshing. |
Linn, I am using them with sonus faber Cremona ms now and they work fine. I've also used them with Maggie's. The amps have a four ohm switch and punch above their weight. Of, course, i don't listen to rock or at very high levels. I use EH el 34s. They are a good value tube. See if your dealer will let you try the amps. They're worth a look. |
I not sure if Dennis designed the 120S or not. I purchased one and was not very impressed with the build quality or the Sonics. However, I am impressed with both aspects of my circa 1996 Sli50. I know there are a few different mods done on the Sli80 but I have not seen any totally new models since his departure which is a shame. Cary doesn't offer any products that interest me at this time. It would be nice to find a new design from them. |

Dennis Had is still making tube gear. His new line is called "Inspire" , most of his gear sells on Ebay, but some stores are starting to "Carry" them now too. https://www.moon-audio.com/dragon-inspire-qmb-25-mono-block-amplifier.html?utm_source=google&utm... |
