Power an amp and component with batteries instead of direct outlet power?

Btw, transformer only works on AC, you can't use batteries to power a transformer!

That's not true. Batteries are used in guitar effect pedals because they don't require a lot of power and make a big mess with cables. As the effects products get bigger and more professional, they don't use batteries.

It is rumored that Eric Johnson can hear differences between brands of batteries in his effects pedals. Now THAT'S bat hearing!

I prefer to not change the batteries in my "stomp box" pedal board heap and have found serious low noise power supplies work fine. I have an old ac cabled MXR gizmo from the early 70s (I no longer use) that powered up to four devices using phone plug inputs. You bought these replacement back plates and put 'em on your MXR boxes and ran the phono plug cables to the power thing...there ya go. Used that thing for manny years. I've heard Johnson's claims and it fits his personality.

It's not a question if it works but if it will sell. That is always the answer to "Why not do..."

I use batteries for my DIY preamp and phono, which are just a few mA. But amplifiers need current, and so the required batteries get prohibitive - and dangerous - and generally not worth it. To me. YMMV

Living Voice uses a maga buck battery/inverter system when demoing their Vox Olympians. ok million dollar system but it can be done easily if you know much about batteries and charging cycles. just a few lead acid car batteries could power a system for hours if done right. hell you could potentially charge them using solar. or buy the Lio as mentioned above.

What about gas powered amps? Nuclear? Some limitations maybe, but might sound fabulous.

My TW Acustic AC3 is powered by Batteries and uses wall current when batteries are low you can clearly hear the difference.

If you want the best sound possible, electric eel's are the way to go. I have yet to hear anything that tops bio electric power.

The clock in my dac is battery powered and the sound is much more solid (grounded, coherent).  Clocks are very sensitive to noise.  

Stromtank seems like a great concept.  And as mentioned Living Voice created a battery/inverter system to show their products at shows and eliminate power issues at the venue.  What about using a Telsa Power Wall with a very intelligently built / audiophile grade inverter to deliver sufficient quantities of AC power to all critical components in a dedicated listening room.  Might need to hire someone to design/build the inverter.  Any downside to this approach? (not worrying about cost for the sake of this conceptual discussion).
