You have to be kidding. How can someone rank or recommend a tonearm when you don't give the model just a brand for some of these.

@vinny55 Are you looking for some nice cartridge or what ? If so, then it's the most exotic way to ask for advice It's impossible to answer your question because the choic of cartridges in your list is very strange. Anyway, you can find a lot of good things about Signet cartridges here on audiogon. Younger version of Raul swear by Sonus Dimension 5, i wish i could find one. Nagaoka MP-50 is a prototype of the latest MP-500, also many good feedbacks here. You can find old Nagaoka under Jewelton brand sometimes. Some of my MC and HOMC cartridges manufactured by Exel (OEM) and they are very good, but don't know anything about the model you have mentioned. I remember ADC Astrion with sapphire cantilever, it's beautiful under my macro lens. But i'm skeptical about ADC perforance level. Denon Dl103 - no comments :) One of the Ortofon MM was highly regarded when the MM discussion was hot in Raul's thread many years ago. It was ortofon M20FL Super (with FineLine diamond). This particular model is very good and not expensive. FineLine stylus is great, i have one NOS Tried several SPU models on Thomas Schick tonearm designed for this cartridge. So ellegant by the look, but later when i found SPU Royal G mkII with its Replicant-100 stylus i was much more impressed! Still have it, the last arm for this cart was Lustre GST-801 with ring weight and heavy counterweight. Now i got my FR-64fx and i'm gonna try my SPU Royal G mkII on it soon. I can not comment on the rest of the carts, but there are several models of Audioquest i wish to know more about. As for the Shure look for Ultra-500 if you want the best one. |
vinny55 OP59 posts04-15-2018 12:27pm@jperry theres enough info there to rate to to bottom. You just skimmed the ones without number Really? Sonus (16 cartridges) Audioquest (20 cartridges) Signet gold brown colour (whatever that is?) ADC gold (They never made a model with that name, but they made over 90 different cartridges) Denon Dl103 (16 different models) If you want specific advice at least ask a question with some specificity instead of just throwing spaghetti against a wall to see if some of it sticks. I shure would like to help you, but your question is too diffuse. Best of luck on your audio adventure. |
Dear @vinny55 : Another " no sense " thread and additional to what @jperry posted you are looking for not only the rank of all those cartridges ( 16+ ) but "
ideal arm/s for each." As I said: " makes no sense " and not only @jperry post is rigth but @lewm too. Seems to me that you are not looking for help but in case you are a sincere audiophile/rookie looking for advice you must give the first step to have what you are looking for and that step is to share here the audio items you have in your room/audio system. Be serious at least one time. Ntflix started a new series: Lost in Space but this forum is not a TV. In this forum we are seeking for advise/help and to achieve that each of us must do our part. Which your role ina that TV series? R. |

vinny55 You certainly have a welcome enthusiasm for for trying to gain understanding. Unfortunately, the list you've compiled is so long and the combinations with arms and systems so complex, you'll probably never get the answers that you seek. Help us to help you. A good place to start would be to ask yourself, what are the objectives? Do you have price constraints? What is your listening environment? What kind of music do you listen to? What TT do you possess and what details can you provide about the rest of your system? It appears that you are a vinyl enthusiast or are becoming one as am I (I have recordings that are probably older than most people on the forum). We share that and I'll help if I can, but please narrow your thinking a bit so helping isn't insurmountable. By the way, the Ortofon 2M Red can be upgraded. The 2M cartridge body is the same throughout that line of cartridges and any 2M stylus will work. With a good system and proper set-up, you'd probably notice musical improvement as you moved up to the top, the 2M Black. I own the 2M Black, and it may be best in class for it's price. |
The Ortofon 2M bodies are identical on the Red and Blue so you can upgrade a Red to a Blue with a stylus change. You can use a Bronze or Black stylus on a Red/Blue body but it will not perform at the level of an actual Bronze or Black. The Bronze and Black bodies are identical so you can fully upgrade a 2M Bronze to a Black with a stylus change. |
@nrenter and what would that cartridge be. If you actually read my list theres 7 great cartridges mentioned: Audioquest 404b, Excel 100e moving coil, Ortofon Mc1, Ortofon Black Shure V15mk3 Nagaoka mp50 plus. Denon 4881 Dl103 How can any of you say that these are not high end boggles the mind especially when you cant proiivide a valid reason. |
