Opinions on differing power cable for amp and preamp

Hello All,

Looking for your thoughts/advice/opinions. I currently have a Rotel RSP-1582 preamp and I am using a Transparent High Performance Power cable. My amp is a Simaudio Titan HT200 5 channel amp using a Shunyata Delta NR 20 amp power cord. Better to trade the Shunyata Delta for a Transparent Premium 20 amp power cord? Does that make more sense for synergy purposes or does it really not make a difference mixing different power cables from different manufacturers? I should also mention all my speaker cable and interconnects are Transparent Plus.

Thanks all in advance....

Opinions? Ok, first I have no opinion about your specific components. My opinion about power cords in general is that they are the most important cables in the system and that they are often very component dependent. A particular cord can work well with component A but, less well with component B. To me, the synergy thing is not achieved by just having all the cables being the same brand but, is found by mixing together those bits and pieces that just "click" or "lock in" or have a high "synergy" for each other. This of course revolves around personal preferences and does require a lot of trial and error testing. That being said, my personal systems do have all the same brand (Transparent) and mostly the same tier level of interconnects and speaker cables within the system but, I have a variety of power cords (many are DIY) again mixed and matched for synergy with each component.

While is is entirely possible that you may prefer the results of going from the Shunyata cord to the Transparent cord, I would not let go of the Shunyata cord before experiencing the Transparent cord with your amp. You don't want to close the door before you know.

I will offer one suggestion about your cord on the preamp. I have a some amount of familiarity with many of the Transparent cables from the mm and mm2 generations including the non-network box cords such as, yours, also the Plus, the Super and the Ultra tiers. If you want to stay with Transparent, I suggest that you replace the "High Performance" cord with a network box cord. The Super mm would be a good step up. BTW, the cord called Premium occupies the position in the line up in the mm2 generation and the Gen 5 generation that previously was called Super. Sometimes Transparent has changed names or the usage of certain names for no apparent reason.

While I prefer Transparent for the reduction of high frequency noise and general control of the highs and if transparent does one thing well, it is bass, the brand does have its detractors with price being one of the issues.

I don't doubt there will be other opinions forthcoming.
Thanks so much for the replies! @mwh777 very insightful and helpful! Always great to hear from a fellow Transparent owner. Great call on trying out the Transparent before parting with the Shunyata and looking at upgrading the High Performance for Premium with the network box. At almost triple the price that's pretty steep but I'll heed your advice:)

@noromance yes, I just had a dedicated 20 amp circuit installed recently. Figured the Simaudio Titan would appreciate that:)
What you're essentially asking about is the "full loom" idea.  Like just about everything else on this site, it hasn't been determined one way or another.  Some people swear by it, others swear at it.  Some will prefer different brands for ICs, SCs, and PCs.  There have been threads where people compensate for some feature of an IC (between source and preamp) with a different brand elsewhere (between preamp and power amp).  As has been said, no one on this site can tell you definitively about your issue.  Experiment--but try to make sure everything is returnable!
@twoleftears Thank you. And yes I know this is extremely subjective and there is no definitive answer. But this is a place where I respect the opinions/experience/advice of all of you and always appreciate anyone just taking the time to respond. I feel like it's always good to get the opinions and advice of those you respect and then mix/match all of those to better help with any decision. The great thing about Transparent is they do have a great upgrade policy and although I know there are those that have differing opinions of Transparent (like everything of course), I have always found them to be a great match with Dynaudio and Rotel in the past for me...
kingbr, my suggestion was about a used Super mm cord. The mm series was the third generation from Transparent. The Premium mm2 was from the fourth generation of product. The mm2 would be a step up compared to the mm series (often unofficially called mm1).The current Gen 5 Premium cord is a bit different from previous generations in that the cord ends are a different brand and are gold plated (at least it was so on the one that passed through my hands). I didn't keep that one. A Gen 5 Premium might be overshooting the target with your current preamp which, I am not familiar with. Perhaps a premium mm2 would be a good choice. Unfortunately, the market for used Transparent cords has been very dry lately. Besides ebay, Agon and Audio Mart, keep an eye on the following websites for Transparent product, Echo Audio, Sunny Audio Video and Paragon Sight and Sound.
Thank you @mwh777 ! Appreciate you following up and clarifying, and for the added detail. And I so know the market has been dry lately for Transparent cords, I've been hunting religiously, LOL! But I've only been hunting here and Ebay. I'll expand my search...Another great insight on overshooting on the preamp. I know Rotel isn't exactly high end, but back in the day I had the RMB1095 driving my Dynaudio Audience and even though I love my current setup (Evoke/Simaudio) there was just something truly magical about that system that I still miss :(. But I'm not sure this particular preamp would justify that kind of $ upgrade for the power cable.

Its kind of funny, some people seem to live in a strange beyond words universe where things like power cords know to sound different depending on what they are plugged into. Over here in my universe the power cord that sounds one way plugged into the amp sounds..... exact same when plugged into the phono stage, CDP, turntable..... what a surprise.

If you find one that sounds really good, beautiful balance, not too much or too little of any one thing, then guess what? More of them will be better. If you have one that is pretty good, especially with powerful bass but not so much top end extension then guess what? More of it will be too much of a "good thing". Which brand it is, the whole concept of "loom" is nothing more than jargon some guys like to throw around to impress other guys.

It works, more often than not, so they keep on doing it.

I don't see how someones experience with a power cord on THEIR component can advise someone of how it will sound on someone else's.
Case in point. I bought a power cord from Verastarr. I got it directly from Mike so I know It is genuine.
I installed it on my phono pre and poof, the bass disappeared. I couldn't believe what I heard.
I then I installed it on my DAC and it sounded normal.
Go figure. From that day forward I realized the effect of cables.
My hypothesis is that cables don't make gear sound better. Some cables that are not on par with the component will cause it to not sound as it should.
I  agree with much of what millercarbon says. I am pleased for him that he has found cables that provide really good beautiful balance in sound that suit his sense of hearing, perceptions and preferences.

I do indeed live in a different universe than millercarbon. My universe is dominated by a hearing condition known as Hyperacusis, which skews my perceptions of sound and therefore my preferences to a different and perhaps "strange" balance than what might be considered as normal. I am also pleased that there is at least one cable company that produces cables that suit my perceptions and preferences.

I am 100% willing to accept that everybody hears differently, perceives differently and has different preferences. To each, his own.

What I have found does work for me and I will keep on doing it.
@rushfan71 (I am also a true Rush worshipper) my intent on this post was more to hear others' opinions and experiences as to whether it makes more sense for synergy purposes to stick with the same manufacturer throughout your system as far as cabling...Again I know this is all so highly subjective on everything and there are too many variables for there to be a true definitive answer to @twoleftears point, but like I said I value the input of others' here and appreciate anyone sharing their experiences and opinions.

I completely agree with your statement that cables don't make the gear sound better however I also agree they can "get in the way"...
@kingbr
I see you get my point. I had to mention this because it was the most obvious change using a cable that I have ever heard and unfortunately it was negative.
Maybe you can do like I plan to when it's time for me to do power cables
(Im saving that for last, in the mean time I have Pangea 14SE's throughout which I've had since another system)
which is try power cables from companies with trial periods.
After my experience with the Verastarr cable I tried, I would hate to get stuck with an expensive cable that hurts my system.
No disrespect to Verastarr just a synergy issue.

Thanks @rushfan71, of course I get your point us Rush fans truly speak the same language:)

While I use a mix of Nordost Valhalla and Acoustic Revive reference power cables, getting clean power to the system involves much more than power cables: a separate spur, power conditioning through either a balanced transformer or passive conditioning (Acoustic Revive, Furutech) as well as grounding support (again Acoustic Revive RGC-24, Akiko Audio) as well as proper EMI/RFI filtering of the individual units‘ power supplies. The power chord is but one component of the system and the aim should be neutrality rather than a specific sound characteristic.
