Serious question. Are Aphiles still buying $15,000 CD players or CD players in general? I am thinking the market is all but dried up.  Must be a very tiny % of audiophiles today. Perhaps I am wrong? 

Alive and well.  Especially in Japan.

I agree in that majority of people stream nowadays instead of spinning disks. 

However, a good CD player has a good DAC. And often times, like this one, that DAC can be "accessed" via a USB port (or other digital inputs) to hook up a streamer to. In which case, in theory, someone can use the same "CD player" as a DAC, thus having a single machine that spin discs as well as acts as your regular DAC. Nothing wrong with this if you ask me.

Perfectly understandable. I would use the dac in the CD as you say to stream and play CDs. Still, it must be a tiny remaining US market and it no doubt inflates the price pretty dramatically.

If Japan is a big CD player market, then it makes perfect sense.

Don't forget the SACD playback part. And the MQA CD playback

For those a more attainable High End player I recently heard the Luxman D-03X for around $3300. Also does MQA-CD and streaming.

@luxmancl38 : why do you say the d-03X includes a streamer?  Looking at the Luxman description of the product I find no mention of a built-in streamer

Great review. Makes me want one 🤓. Wonder how it compares to my Mojo Audio Evo dac? I love the type of sound Steve was expressing about the d-10x and find the Evo has it also.

i saw/heard the Steve G review and he was very gushing. (I'm not into streaming yet, fyi.) I looked seriously at getting a D-10X, but couldn't really justify the $17,000 entry fee for just a very capable CD player. If it were to include streaming at that price I would have made the leap to penury. But I couldn't justify adding another couple to several grand for an additional streamer, not to mention the space requirements in a limited rack.

I have had mine for a month.  Significant step up from the D-08u.  The DAC is so good that it replaced my Chord DAVE.

We all know the truth now, the cd format players/sales are a  <<thing of the past>>> 
The DAC thingy/streamer deal has steered consumers away from the higher end cd players.
Of course we know Jadis still has super high end cdp/DAC's at $$$$$. PL makes a nice tube player/DAC. 
Not sure what sales numbers are like for ither lab's units. 
Shanling now offers a  3.2 player./Cayin offers a new Mark2. 
I am near making a  shootout twix my Cayin cd17 Mark1 /upgraded vs the Shanling cd3000 upgraded.
maybe next month. 
I am very happy with the Cayin upgraded and look forward to hearing how the Shanling performs with its Mundorf/Sparkos-labs ops.. 
This will give me 2 <<world class>> cd players.
I think Luxman needs to reconsider the price offering. 
With the economy as it is, folks are on a  budget.

I doubt that respective to the unit in question that Luxman is targeting folks that are generally needing to worry about their budget.

Luxman does serve up less costly players for the more budget minded buyers... Statement players of this caliber don’t come cheap.

@jafant Accuphase has left the room.  Full Luxman now. 
Still running TQ for the most part.
