What’s your budget, and are you looking for new or used? Why not just get another Purest IC?
need a new IC cable ( rca )
i am in the market for a new IC cable that can either go from preamp to amp or preamp to cd player. i just need one as i already have one pair of Purist Audio Musaeus cable.
I like the Purist Audio as it has a black background, and still lets detail come thru.
needs to be rca .
budget would be $200-400?
no silver
equipment is as follows :
tube preamp
inndersound esl 300 amp
ayre cx7 cd player
i mentioned what my budget was. new or used, it doesnt matter.
i have tried the following cables in other setups: Morrow audio level 2 or 3 Acoustic Zen Matrix Reference 2
its possible if a used one came up for sale, but they dont come up often. with them being a older cable, not sure i want to pay that price for new.

Secure connections are important. I changed most of my RCA's to Ortofon pure copper with Locking RCA connectors. The best thing I like about XLR in home systems (no long length advantage) with short runs is that the connector's 'lock' in securely. As for 'better' 'different', I have 3 din phono cables, one vintage, one custom by Pine Tree Audio, one highly recommended Ortofon. various designs and lengths. I switch them, no difference I or my friends can perceive. Slightly loose connection, random balance, anyone can perceive, but knowing the culprit can be tricky, so I rule the connections out these days. RCA Jack condition is also important, especially vintage equipment. Audio Classics overhauled my mx110z preamp, replacing all 17 rca jacks with new gold plated ones. |
I would stay with Purist. But if you can’t wait for a used one to come up I see AZ Matrix II with latest connectors on USAM Probably closest in sound to your Purist and potentially even slightly better than the Museaus. These would be great for the source to pre connection. |
I recently got A mogami cable, w3173, which is bulk cable that is not available via retail due to it's larger guage. Not sure why they don't offer this retail. It is regarded as one of their best audio cables. I found someone to attach RCA connectors. And for about 12 feet on each side it was about $150. I compare this to a cardas clear cable for a couple thousand it was a hell of a lot better. Super clear and did not get in the way of anything. cardas cables I believe are designed to color up the sound which can be nice for some people. But if you have a good preamp you don't need to color up the sound with a cable.
