The MOFI room at Audio Advice Live was probably the best two channel room. Had the new SourcePoint 10s with latest xover. Also the 10 towers were exceptional.
MoFi SourcePoint 8—The Hype Is Real!
Well, count my love affair with LS50 Metas as finally over. Just got these MoFi Electronics SourcePoint 8 standmounts in and…yeah, they destroy the LS50 Metas. No contest. So much richer, more full bodied (this comparing with both pairs of speakers crossed over to an SVS PC-2000 Pro at 60Hz). Soundstage is both deeper and wider. Bigger sweet spot for listening. Just stellar—can’t believe I waited this long to do this. Got them open box, so snagged a great deal on them. Selling a pair of SVS 3000 Micro subwoofers, along with the pair of LS50 Metas & S2 stands, should cover the cost of these and then some. Already sounds stellar and I didn’t even calibrate or turn on DIRAC Live yet!

Interesting, and good to hear it. With each new MoFi speaker introduction there seems to be lots of coverage, then little comment follows. That caused me to wonder if sales have been modest? A few months ago I bought Source Point 888s and have been increasingly pleased with them. They are very musically satisfying and I've even received complements on how good they look in my room. |
@audioman58 I agree with you about the Xovers. The Sourcepoint series is pretty well designed in a lot of ways, and they manage to get some good sound out of them. Really smooth and full tone, not the best resolution but not bad either. Really a crowd pleaser. They do cut some corners though, probably they figure most people won't care since the sound is already nice as it is. I bet a crossover upgrade would take them to the next level though. |
A follow-up, now that I've had the opportunity to tweak the positions of the speakers and calibrate DIRAC Live. Using DIRAC Live to correct only from 12-300Hz with +6.5dB Harman bass tilt. -Ed |
