Missing the Old Days
A big + on the JBL recommendation. I have the 4319 monitors and they're based on decades old tech and sound wonderful; no sub needed and can be loud enough to break any lease. They're driven by a good old Class A/B Marantz integrated and I use solid, single core, silver speaker cables. About as primitive as you can get and aside from bass and loudness, it's as refined and see-through as you can get and can scale anything from the most delicate to the most bombastic without loosing composure. I might consider replacing the source (from SACD to music server) but everything else is staying put. All the best, Nonoise |
Jon_5912, Tutetibiimperes..... crack your foundation, knock your house down.. lol I like those descriptions! i guess I’d want some refinement for those times when I want to play some good Jazz, Big Band Music, Acoustic etc.. grannyring and David_10’s Tekton suggestion looks promising! Add that 7 Tweeter arrangement upgrade and that may be a winner! I’m liking those! |
Cerwin Vega is still around. JBL has some models available from MusicDirect.com that you might like. Klipsch is everywhere and they still make some pretty big floorstanders that I'm sure rock pretty hard. If I were looking for some big rocking speakers and refinement wasn't a priority I'd consider some pro audio speakers as well. You could probably walk into a pawn shop and walk out with some stage monitors that'd knock your house down. https://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-CWV-SL15?src=Y0802G00SRCHCAPN&adpos=1o3&scid=scplpCW... |
