I received my Jay's cd2 mkIII 3 weeks ago to mate with my Pontus II. I am using the I2S connection and it's amazing. I tried the RCA/coaxial connection earlier when I received the Jay's but it wasn't burned in then. I kept the I2S hooked up and never went back to the RCA/coaxial connection. Sorry can't offer opinions on it. It really takes 400 hours to burn-in as stated in the manual. I was skeptical at first and around halfway it really started opening up. Don't give up on the Jay's cd2 mkIII. I hate trying to convince anyone how to spend their money if they aren't happy with a purchase. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I have mine connected with both I2s and Aes and switch from one to the other with my gustard remote depending on recordings. If opening up the highs is your objective, the I2s connection is the way to go. However I prefer the more solid sound of the Aes for hard/metal recordings which also provides a bit more width in soundstage to my ears. Also I recommend the Qstab CD clamp which will somehow provide an airier sound with more space around each musician. However, for you to talk about the sound being MUTED in the highs makes me think something doesn't compute. Brand new out of the box the Jay's was a huge step up in treble clarity from the Cambridge CXC. But I use a Gustard x26 pro, not the r2r Pontus. I never used the RCA connection but I would venture to say you are not doing yourself a favor if you can use Aes or I2s, both likely much superior to rca.

Glad to hear. Jay's cdt2 mk3 is an excellent product and Alvin is a standout guy. Sorry you couldn't give us more details about your change of cables. They deserve better than that brief explanation of yours after saying it had muted highs. Just saying.

Well The unit is great, has a sonic signature of its own, Took a bit to get used to
maybe what I was hearing before the jays was Glare. Ha
|

Well as far as cables, really didn't make a big difference yet as I just used Bargain type to get an idea.
My system is in a garage converted with a big heater.
System was cold, 50 degree cold. Makes a difference.

My Jays cd2 mkIII is exceeding my expectations and I appreciate your helping me accessing the I2s code correctly and the lead on theQstab with your personal emails. It's performing flawlessly with over 400 hours now. Definitely my end game transport I have too many discs to not give them a better transport.

Ya the amount of information that Transport feeds the DAC is incredible.
I get completely drawn into the music/recording with this thing.

After purchasing a Mark2 that dumped garbage and locking up my QEDX, I purchased the Mk3 board. After the upgrade, the transport sounded dull and two dimensional the first 100 hours. It didn’t even compete against my lowly Oppo. However it open up after an extensive burn-in with XLO track. Even so, if I power down this Jay a couple of weeks, it will take a few hours of playing to weak up. This applies to my unit and in my system. Mileage may varies with yours.

Update,Got a cheap BNC cable, and left this thing run overnight and it really opened up.
