Jay’s Audio DAC

Looks like Jay’s Audio entered the DAC market.

I see it uses the same CRYSTEK Femto clock technology as their Transports.

How does this compare to R2R decoding from the likes of Denafrips, Lab12 and others? Anyone have ideas or experience with the implementation of their technology from either their unit or related units?

The JA Dac2 may sound better doing DSD as it’s got Delta Sigma D/A converters, but my bets still on the Denafrips R2R ladder dac when doing RedBook PCM 16/44, 24/96 or DXD. It good marketing to cover all the bases

From Mojo Music
When a PCM file is played on a native DSD single-bit converter, the single-bit DAC chip has to convert the PCM to DSD in real-time. This is one of the major reasons people claim DSD sounds better than PCM, when in fact, it is just that the chip in most modern single-bit (Delta Sigma) DACs do a poor job of decoding RedBook PCM.

I will chime in here as well. I am looking to upgrade from a many years old EMM LABS dcc2 SE to a new dac that can handle higher bit rates. The problem is that if the DAC can handle oversampled but doesn’t sound good what’s the use. Any one have any direct comparison between emm labs of years ago and Jay’s of today?
Jay's Audio DAC2 is just released. Its features packed with

- NOS
- HDMI i2s
- 6 Isolated Digital Input
- DSD512, PCM384Khz

It is the latest model :)
It would be great if this DAC ends up being very transparent and up punches well above it's weight. I'm still not 100% sold on the Terminator, and if I can avoid lusting over and saving up for the Rockna, that would be spectacular.
Word from my sources indicate that the Jay's Audio DAC is being upgraded with further modifications. Stay tuned...should be interesting. Alvin.....you out there? Care to chime in?
@twoleftears:
The Jay’s Audio DAC appears to be designed to compete directly against the Denafrips Venus--the second tier unit of the Denafrips line-up. The Jay’s Audio DAC would run $2625USD; the Denafrips Venus would run $2805USD. Here is a comparison of the Denafrips DAC’s taken from Alvin’s website: https://www.vinshineaudio.com/denafrips
Absent knowledge of the products comparison table now included on Alvin’s site, I’ve commented before about the Venus on the Denafrips Terminator thread on the digital sub-forum (entry dated 11-03-2018 10:22pm): https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/denafrips-dac-owner-impressions-feedback-general-discussion-q...

Yes, given that the Jay's + Denafrips combo was previously being touted, the big question is how it compares to Denafrips.  Which Denafrips model is it closest to in price?
@mikepowellaudio   Very interested in where this stands versus the Terminator and the Rockna.
I have an ex M1 and love it. Regarding DACs, and I’m new to all this, why, if the offer mqa, is it by way of USB?  Thanks
I will have that piece shortly and will compare directly to Terminator and record the difference so you may hear for yourself to decide. I will also comment on my findings.. The results will be posted on www.youtube.com/c/OCDHIFIGuy
Happy listening !
