Looks like Jay’s Audio entered the DAC market.

I see it uses the same CRYSTEK Femto clock technology as their Transports.

How does this compare to R2R decoding from the likes of Denafrips, Lab12 and others? Anyone have ideas or experience with the implementation of their technology from either their unit or related units?

@twoleftears: The Jay’s Audio DAC appears to be designed to compete directly against the Denafrips Venus--the second tier unit of the Denafrips line-up. The Jay’s Audio DAC would run $2625USD; the Denafrips Venus would run $2805USD. Here is a comparison of the Denafrips DAC’s taken from Alvin’s website: https://www.vinshineaudio.com/denafrips Absent knowledge of the products comparison table now included on Alvin’s site, I’ve commented before about the Venus on the Denafrips Terminator thread on the digital sub-forum (entry dated 11-03-2018 10:22pm): https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/denafrips-dac-owner-impressions-feedback-general-discussion-q... |
Here is a link that contains a couple Youtube clips of a system comparing the Venus and Terminator DACS:https://www.denafrips.com/single-post/2018/07/08/VENUS-VS-TERMINATOR |
I will chime in here as well. I am looking to upgrade from a many years old EMM LABS dcc2 SE to a new dac that can handle higher bit rates. The problem is that if the DAC can handle oversampled but doesn’t sound good what’s the use. Any one have any direct comparison between emm labs of years ago and Jay’s of today? |
The JA Dac2 may sound better doing DSD as it’s got Delta Sigma D/A converters, but my bets still on the Denafrips R2R ladder dac when doing RedBook PCM 16/44, 24/96 or DXD. It good marketing to cover all the bases From Mojo MusicCheers George |
