Innuos and Roon?

 The thinking is that you want the core processing to happen on a different machine that the streaming is done.

@carlsbad2 this seems to make sense.  I have the Linn DSM/2 streamer DAC and was wondering for a long while if to purchase a Roon Nucleus+ for the core or buy a separate better streamer and put the core within the streamer.  The Nucleus+ is much better on my wallet.  Thanks for the tip.

I own the Innuos Zenith Mk3 but will sell because it reportedly does not play sonically well with Roon.  

One more question. Roon is a streamer, right?

Is the Innous streamer sounding better? or for that matter the rose hifi?

I am thinking of buying rose but I am afraid it will make no differnce in the quality of the sound

Can someone please explain in simple language what is the roon end point vs roon core?

Do you mean by end point that you can use your phone or computer where roon software is installed and be able to manage the music on the streamer e.g. on Innuos?

If you have the roon nucleus as a core, do you connect it to the streamer? or do you keep it connected directly to the amplifier?

I used to use Roon but no longer do so after I incorporated a PULSE into my system. Don't miss it either. The Sense app is great and is without a doubt better than Roon.

Agreed on the comments about Sense. Superior sound quality to Roon. I have the life license for Roon but use Sense all the time 

Good question.  No DSP with Sense.   Sense offers better sound quality because the software is less demanding on the Innuos hardware and designed to deliver the best sound possible with Innuos gear.  Just try it and you will love the sound 🙂.  

I do not use DSP upscaling. Is that what you mean by better sound?

Unfortunately I have several different types of streamers Lumin, Ropieee, Bluesound, Innuos etc so Roon is the only option if I just want to deal with one app.

I am a life long Room member, but with Innuos gear the Sense program sounds much better.  I don’t use Roon with my Zenith 3 because of this. Sense is getting better monthly in terms of the interface and features, but still not as good as Roon in this regard.  However, the sound of Sense is so much better that I just can’t go back to Roon.  

I used Roon on my Statement which also runs an Intel Quad Core processor.  Roon ran fine running both Core and Endpoint on the Statement.  It sounded a little better when I used an Antipodes Core as the Roon Core (Innuos recognizes the Antipodes Core as a NAS now and the Sense app seamlessly plays and searches the Core).  It sounded better running Roon in "Experimental Mode".  But Roon NEVER sounded as good as InnuOS Sense.

I never liked how the Roon DSP sounded with any of the above, that may be related to the processor which was chosen for low noise vs high power.

Sense is very stable and quick.  It integrates fully with Qobuz.  I am not sure about full integration with Tidal.  Its search function is excellent.

Oh, and it's free and regularly updated and the updates don't degrade SQ.  You can try the Sense and if it's not doing what you want you can go back to paying for Roon.

I also use Roon with my Zen Mini and Zen. 

Roon interface is very easy to work with, too.

No problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the replies. I have Roon Core on an Intel NUC. So was just looking for a good sounding endpoint.

I do prefer to stick with Roon rather than multiple other manufacturer specific software.

I use Roon and an Innuos Zenity MK3.  Very satisfied.

I do not install the core on the streamer.  I have a separate core.  The thinking is that you want the core processing to happen on a different machine that the streaming is done.    I do intend to install a core on the streamer and test it myself but haven't yet.  

Another advantage of a seperate core is you can install Roons Root Kit that is much more reliable than putting Roon inside a Windows environment.

As for "roon ready", I'm never sure what to think of that.  I know Aurender sees Roon as a competitor and you can't run roon with Aurender.  

On my Innuos, the streamer appears transparent to Roon and Roon sees the DAC.   I have had this experience with other streamers and DACs so I'm not sure how important "roon ready" is (except for Aurender).

Roon with its heavy CPU usage is the opposite philosophy to InnuOS. Purely in terms of SQ InnuOS’ Sense beats Roon by a country mile. If you insist on using Roon, InnuOS is not the right choice
