The VAC is an excellent choice. The home theater on the integrated do use the power amp section to drive the connected speakers, but the surround processor becomes the preamp. This allows the main speakers of your two channel to be used as the main right and left of your home theater setup. On the VAC preamps the home theater is just a straight pass through. Really no different in theory as the signal would then be passed to the external power amp powering your two channel to drive the front right and left...
Help me choose an integrated tube amp? OR separates
I'm going back to high efficiency speakers and a nice low powered tube amp. (Probably Tekton speakers)
I've come to realize that I like a little coloration and plenty of air. So I'm assuming something SET or at least triode.
Must haves are:
remote
$4k or Less - less would be great :-)
And I think I need HT pass through unless there is another/better option as I would like my front speakers to play double duty with my HT receiver and my 2 channel amp.
And I'll likely go used
I think that might be a lot to ask out of an integrated so I'm open to separates info as well. But the need for certain aspects of the amp and pre to match are confusing to me right now.
Maybe you can tell me what needs to match between the separates to have proper cohesion?
I recently came across the Vac Avatar SE and seems like a pretty excellent option for me. But the HT RCA input gets called different things depending on where I read. It sounds less like a pass through and more like an option to use the tube amp as the front end of your HT/TV set up.

@drrsutliff So the VAC would need to be turned on while I was watching TV and the VAC would be powering my front R&L of my 7.2 HT Denon receiver? I'm still a bit confused by the HT pass thru some pre's offer. I couple of the tube pre manufacturers that I emailed, commented that the pre didnt even need to be turned on. It would just send the signal to the speakers while I had the HT receiver on. |

@flavo If you had a “surround sound processor” as a front end for your home theater then the “pass through” would work as you would be using external power amps. You indicate you have a Receiver which has its own power amps internal. The pass through will do you no good. If you have speakers for the theater that you wish to use for two channel also you will need to swap speaker cables between the two channel amp and the surround receiver. Not very efficient. I might not be as clear as I wish here so if you want more discussion message me and I will try to clarify. Bottom line is with the 7.2 Denon if you want a separate 2 channel you probabaly want additional speakers just hooked to the two channel. Rick |
