HELP! I bought equipment drunk, don’t know anything.

So I woke up with a very sore head and depleted bank account this morning.

Recently bought an Audiolab 6000a and Elekit TU-8500 tube preamp. I’ve never owned a preamp before and I hope they’re compatible for my KEF Q11.

I then had a few bottles of wine...

Woke up and saw I had purchased a passive pair of Bryston A2.

Will the amp be able to power the speakers? I don’t listen to loud music.
Please help this idiot.

Well then I certainly hope they work out well for you!
You are a braver man than I.
I would find a way to solder my fingers together.
Look, I’ve never claimed to not be an idiot and I do appreciate everyones time and advice.

I’ve only purchased active studio monitors the last 20 years or so, except for the Kefs. Separate components are all new to me.

Hi thecarpathian.
Yes the 6000a can be used as a power amp, preamp or integrated. Puts out 75W at 4ohm and I dont listen to music loudly. Not the best amp for Brystons, but as mentioned earlier, I bought the amp initially to power an old set of Kef Q11s.

But I did find a review where someone tested the amp with the Brystons and had no trouble. Got the Brysons dirt cheap with warranty. Worst case scenario I crack a few bottles of red and buy a bigger amp. Kidding. Sit back down guys.
The valve preamp is to run a Rega turntable through. Didn’t need to buy it - was more of a curio and I’m competent with a soldering iron and have a lot of spare time at the moment. Can always sell it or use on the second upstairs system with the kefs i guess.

The audiolab is a british amplifier that means usually for smaller rooms and of lower than average current it probably will drive them ok for low volumes but usually not the type of amp that works with every speaker.
I've got to ask:
Why did you buy an integrated amp and a preamp?
Can you use the 6000a solely as an amp?
Also, your amp I believe is 50 watts and the Bryston's  are 87db.
Not enough juice in my opinion for them to reach their full potential.
Good luck, hope you know something about the assembly of electronics. Otherwise sell the kit and move on.
You’re a cheeky lot.

Have I not made it clear this was a one off aberration? Which I actually now have peace with due to forum member's constructive chastising and helpfulness. So thanks all. The

Elekit arrived today. Hooray! Will post pics once I’ve finished glueing it together
The next time you go on a bender PM me and I will give you my Venmo Address and ask you for a donation. Thanks in advance!😀
Please help this idiot.
Quit getting hammered and buying expensive stuff.
Send them back.
CAn I just say that this OP is my favourite AUDIOGONER by a country mile.
Best forum post i have read in years
what does your other half think of this tom foolery - people pay for drugs, gamble and prostitutes when in drink - BUT HI FI ????

Alcohol frequently gives advice. It’s usually bad advice, but advice none the less.
Keep drinking, sooner or later you will be streaming all over the place.
I’m yet to build the elekit - hoping it arrives today for a weekend project. Quite the bargain if you order the kit from the distributor.

Does anyone know if you can preamp the streaming signal from a streaming amp?
FWIW - i don’t normally drink or buy much kit, but i’d be eyeing speakers off for many months and only bought them as i made a very low offer which was accepted.
The Elekit TU-8500 is a fine tube preamp "IF" it was assembled well as it was sold in kit form.
Don’t know about the rest, but you won’t need the Elekit with the Audiolab, as it’s an integrated amp with it's own preamp

Cheers George

I love to drink wine and other things while listening to music. I can see how it can lead to a vicious cycle of drinking and spending.  At least that pre only needs two tubes, though the 12AU7/5965 tube family is one of the largest and easiest to find NOS varieties around....  Good god man, hide your wallet, shred your plastic, change your passwords!!!!
The last time I had a few too many snoots I ordered (online) a master case/144 pack of Hamburger Helper's Buddy.

If the Elekit is assembled I might be willing to make a straight trade.

No! Enjoy the sore head...

Drinking and drinking mix not to much else.. Maybe a little dancin'

NA and AA you don’t even have to tell them your last name..

it may be time to reevaluate your life choices if your spending huge dollars while your drunk.
Hi, you should make it a rule to never do business when you are drinking unless its just a couple of drinks. I don't think the two mix
Hi and thank you for the reply MC. I did find a review where they ran that amp into A2 and all
good. I’m glad as I’d be eyeing off the A2s for months and made a low ball offer for which was accepted! I had no real intention of buying speakers.

Speaker cable next! Off to the whiskey store.

The amp will power the speakers, yes. Question is how drunk do you have to get to buy speaker cables?
