Hafler DH500

I have a Hafler DH 500 running a pair of AR 303a speakers thru an Adcom preamp.  I would like any recommendations for a similar unit.. 500 wps minimum in a more modern unit that I won't have to take out a Home Equity loan to purchase...      Anybody.........?

Hi Lonebmwrider,
I'd possibly be interested in your Hafler dh-500. Can you let me know what you're looking to get for it and why you decided to upgrade to a newer amp?
Thanks!
Michael
Hi OP!

I'm glad you liked it. Question is what are you looking for. The Parasound P7 is a great sounding pre, but it will add nothing.

If you want something colorful, a used CJ? :)

Hi.. Erik.. I was able to audition the A21...it is superb !  I have one coming this week!  Anyone looking for a good used, serviced DH 500?   :)

Anyway.. what do you like for a pre amp to compliment the Parasound?  I am presently using an Adcom GFP-55...
Adcom GFA 585se, 450w per side, very well reviewed (see other threads on A'gon).
Odyssey Audio +1. Manufactured right here, in Indianapolis, IN. Alon Wolf uses them, to voice his highly regarded speakers(Magico) No fan noise, either. Klaus is a great guy, with great products and offers a number of valuable(audible) upgrades, at very reasonable prices. http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-stratos-stereo.html I’d opt for a pair of these: http://www.odysseyaudio.com/products-stratos-mono.html Then, there’s also this very attractive policy(beside his 20 year warranty): http://www.odysseyaudio.com/sales-usa.html
I think you should listen to Bryston, but I prefer Parasound. The A21 and A23 are superb.

To your own ear and heart be true though!

Erik
I don't really need that kind of power Erik.. the Hafler is actually 250 per ...not 500.  My mistake. I have heard Bryston Amps on other systems... nice.  Is there a particular one that you would recommend?
Something did just occur to me. These older amps often benefit a great deal from re-capping. However, in practice most people recap, like the changes, and then end up selling the amp anyway. :)

Why do you need 500 Watts? I can think of a number of sub-500 watt amplifiers which would sound magnificent.

Hafler amps often sounded under powered to my ear, if that's how you are basing your needs, Bryston, Parasound, and older CJ amps would totally outperform them with less power.
