Really??? look above at what you just did, you even can’t keep your word to yourself, I wish you did, what chance do others have to believe you. And then bet the peace love dope card comes out yet again!! |
My friend David who bought one on these GaN bundles https://gansystems.com/evaluation-boards/gs-evb-aud-xxx1-gs/ https://www.richardsonrfpd.com/Products/Product/GS-EVB-AUD-BUND He said it’s on the way from the US to Aus. I’ll keep all interested here updated on how he goes, once he’s boxed it and fired it up, on his B&W 800 Diamonds He seemed keen on these chassis he can get here as they have a volume and input selector knobs ready to go. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322543529979?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item4b1917affb:g:LAgAAOSw2ENW7j... Atmasphere will put on anything and screw things around to suit himself that threatens his up coming GaN Class-D that he spruiks about, if it ever comes. Then we'll see what that does on the "independent" test bench. He fails to point out with this GaN by GaN amp/smp that the many of the measurements were actually outstanding by Amirm, and that only 2 were not up to Amirm’s his standard, and that’s reason for the conclusion. And was because the owners unit was sent to him to measure but was set for very low feedback because the owner like the sound that way, and this was the reason for those 2 average measurements.I’ve PM’d Amirm to see if he can get the board back again for measurements but with the feedback set in normal amount which will then bring those two average measurements up to the rest and will almost certainly change his conclusion. I hope it happens. Cheers George |
@atmasphere — thanks, I hadn’t seen the ASR review. Getting back to my original post... if you’ve auditioned a component and love it, then sure, go ahead and spread the word. But if you’ve never even heard it, it’s bizarre to be telling people, "It’s only $970! Only 4 left, hurry before it’s sold out! No, I’ve never heard it before, and I didn’t get one for myself". |
Shouldn't you listen to this evaluation board before encouraging people to buy it? There is a chance it might not live up to your expectations. The board design might be intended more as a demonstration of power efficiency rather than sound quality.@mspot There is a reveiw of this evaluation board on audioscience.com from last June: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/gan-systems-amplifier-eval-board-measurem... Amirm (the guy testing it) concluded: MOSFET transistors have revolutionized computing and switching power designs. It is nice to see a new type become available after decades of refinement of MOSFET. GaN transistors offered by GaN systems show a path to cooler running, more efficient and better performing amplifiers and power supplies. The eval unit unfortunately doesn't show the improved performance due to different target for it. So best to look at commercial implementations that shoot for state of the art implementations. On August 25th George brought the thread back to life when he tried tried to get Amirm to add more feedback to the amp, so as to possibly change his conclusion. This is seen on page 7 of that same thread linked above: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/gan-systems-amplifier-eval-board-measurem... There were two prior threads to this one, both of which George started and later deleted, mostly on account of that conclusion of Amirm's. IMO you do want to pay attention; also note that this evaluation kit does not provide any heatsinking means, so its power supply is current limited to prevent damage to the output devices if driven to full power into 4 ohms. It should be 400 watts, but is current limited to 114 watts to prevent overheating. Output devices in a switching amplifier can go into thermal runaway because as they get hotter, their On resistance increases, which causes them to run hotter. So lack of a heatsink is a serious issue for an audiophile. Its not if your intent is simply to evaluate the devices, and for that purpose this kit works really well. |
I will not ever post again on any thread that George startsThat can only be a blessing for me, thank god for that, I hope you stay true to your word. Anyone that says he can take a look at this pic https://ibb.co/h1F7TGx and then says he sees many mods that can be done to transform it to be even better, can’t be trusted, no matter how much "peace love dope" he preaches while his other hands in your back pocket. Cheers George |
I’m afraid for George.....he is getting more delusional all the time. I hope he gets some help. Seriously. There is just no need to respond to him. All it does is set him off more. Please, do not respond to him.....for his sake and everyones. Let it go....let it be....love yourself.....love yourself......love everyone.....enjoy this moment.....it is the only moment that is now.......now is all we have. Stop fighting.....stop trying to be right.....and BE RIGHT HERE NOW.....the being that we are is enough....it has always been enough. Blessings and infinite smiles to everyone. I will not ever post again on any thread that George starts......I let you grow on your own.....you cannot hear what I wish for you......everlasting peace and happiness. I leave you to grow on your own. You will grow.....hopefully this lifetime......why wait. |
Please can the trying to denigrate GaN and the people who were behind it some 5years ago when I first started to post about them https://forum.audiogon.com/posts/1413463 and then after said they will take over from Mosfet in Class-D just get lost! And find something else to put on. Please George |
https://epc-co.com/epc/AboutEPC/Team.aspx "Alex Lidow co-inventor of the HEXFET power MOSFET" Big stuff to me. https://ibb.co/s10WFsB That looks pretty big to me also. Efficient Power Conversion Corporation Global Headquarters 909 N. Pacific Coast Highway Suite 230 El Segundo, CA 90245 Regional Offices Other Offices You get it right |
It’s a huge American company https://epc-co.com/epcPlease get your facts straight. Efficient Power Conversion Corporation (EPC) is a small startup company with 79 employees listed on LinkedIn and annual revenue of $20M. Look up their address and view it on Google Street View. Their headquarters is a suite inside a shared office building. |
Like I said, look here for 5 pages and see if your maths can put 2 and 2 together, and what they spell https://forum.audiogon.com/search/index?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=AGD&username=rh67 |
Yes, brands, a lot more have entered the market as opposed to back then. Pretty easy to figure what was available over a decade ago, a handful and offerings today which are far superior and more abundance. Many more have jumped onto the class D bandwagon. Should not take that much thinking on how it could have been done. |
This is far better still I say to those here, look at yourself with 5 pages of posts on a particular amplifier company. You really need to cover your tracks or don't make people suspicious, so they search this sort of thing out. https://forum.audiogon.com/search/index?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=AGD&username=rh67 |
Really, you must be , not to do your homework first before that kind of accusation. It’s a huge American company https://epc-co.com/epc that also inverted the Mosfet transistor all those years ago as well, https://epc-co.com/epc/AboutEPC/Team.aspx And it’s not floated on the share market, if it were I would have been first to buy shares in it And I’m a lowly ex pro surfer from Manly Australia, who’s other love from 11 is electronics and audio. So work that out, before opening your mouth and letting that kind of flow out.!!! |
rather than sound quality.Think real hard, who said this?? you or the opposition to it here!!! Members here are hopefully people that think, and can make up their own minds, seeing they have to make it. Once it’s in a nice $100 chassis from ebay, eg: https://www.ebay.com/itm/273637317398?hash=item3fb60e1b16:g:W04AAOSw-ZlcLYch It’s a GaN amp with preamp, input selector, digital and analog, and has it’s own dac and is laptop configurable with Audio Canvas III. Even if it’s not top shelf Class-D (which I doubt) in sound you’ll "at least" get your money back to sell it, unlike selling anything commercial you bought new and then try to sell used’ that’s nearly always close to halved. If you knew the design tech cred David has who purchased one, if he’s getting it, then there’s somethings special about it. I’d rather hear what he has to say than most of the shills here shilling from themselves or their friends companies. Cheers George |
Shouldn't you listen to this evaluation board before encouraging people to buy it? There is a chance it might not live up to your expectations. The board design might be intended more as a demonstration of power efficiency rather than sound quality. The DAC section and preamp section of the evaluation board may not be the highest quality. Will you be able to evaluate the GaN amplifier separately? |
Will do, my friend David hi-end tech here for most of the hiend stores in Sydney was very excited he could get one after Mouser ran out. I’ll hear it on his B&W 800 D4’s, he’ll have it up and running a day after he gets it from the US, not hard to mount in a box. My own made Hypex NC500 mono’s with massive linear power supplies 83v - + rails, sound good on his D4’s and are 400w @ 8ohm, more than twice the wattage, so the GaN will be up against it, my belief is it will sound better to a certain volume, as it’s wattage hamstrung, compared to the NC500 powerhouses.
