Test pilot. Mea culpa. Thanks for correcting me. I use the Eagle/Roadrunner to control the Lenco motor.
Does VPI ADS work with Basis Gold Debut?
Anybody out there have experience with adding a speed control to a Basis Gold Debut? Will an ADS (VPI) work with this turntable? I would like not to have to change the pulley for 45rpm., plus take advantage of more stable speed. Basis own speed control is beyond what I'm willing to spend, and of course Basis will not answer whether the ADS will operate with their turntable.

The Phoenix products are excellent. I have a Falcon that I was using with my Basis and the micro adjustments really let you lock the speed in. The only thing is, the Falcon has a 5v limit, which runs very hot with the Basis 5v motor and I was concerned about longevity, which is why a bought an ADS. I spoke to SOTA a couple years back and asked them if they were ever going to re-release the standard Phoenix models, but, at least back then they had no plans. If they released the Eagle, which has a significantly higher output than the Falcon, I would definitely buy it. |
Isn’t the amplifier unit of the SOTA eclipse system equivalent to the Eagle amplifier in the Phoenix system? The Eagle makes 25 W, and that is why I use it to drive my Lenco motor. Why not just adapt the SOTA eclipse system? If it’s not 25 W, I am pretty sure it makes more than 5 W and would work better than your present power source. |
@lewm, as previously noted, the current SOTA Eclipse motor controller can only drive a 3-phase BLC motor. The old Phoenix Eagle drives a single phase motor. |
