dgarretson-

I am hoping to see and buy a CD version of this year's RSD GD 4-LP release.
The recent Rhino 4-LP clear vinyl of Capitol Theater Passaic NJ 4/25/77 is a home run.  Excellent performance and SQ and not a click or pop from end to end.
Most subscribers got their copies Thurs or Fri.  Sound quality is a bit disappointing but better than the previously circulating SBD.  Disc 2 contains one of their best jam/medleys

Just ordered DP18! less than 500 units left- these always go fast and sell-out!
I'm pretty sure there is no transfer or remastering of the 5-8-77 Betty done by Charlie Miller.  The circulating MSR>D copies all come from Dougal Donaldson's PCM (on VHS) copy made at the original (and only, so far!) transfer session.  Bob Menke has an all-analog version on Beta HiFi but I don't think anyone has transferred that to digital.  Rob Eaton then dbx-decoded a DAT transfer (from Dougal's PCM) using his studio equipment.  Since the original is at 16/44.056, there is unlikely to be an advantage to using a higher digital resolution IMHO.
So in addition to everything that's been recommended  here don't forget that Tidal, and Spotify, have TONS of live Dead shows including most of the Road Trips and Downloads series and lots of Dicks Picks. And great sound quality on Tidal.
Feel free to PM me if necessary and we could work out the details.
Happy Listening!
Guys-

any of you have Cornell on CD/CD-R ?
I am not into any files.  Happy Listening!
Raymonda I'm good thanks I have Charlie Millers version of it and it sounds amazing, I've shared it with a few folks here myself.
Good Day Ray-

I am trying to get a PM to you- but this goddamn system is not sending it to you?

Is the Cornell show that you are offering on CD/CD-R ?

-JA
The cornell 5 8 77....dbx decoded....24/48...mastered by myself and not available on archive.org. the original digital copy came from the master reel to reel and given to me before the archive was up and running.

Yes, you can listen to this show all day long from archive.org but not this version, which, IMHO, slays the rest.

If interested PM me you email and I will hightail it to you. I'm stopping at 3, though.

Btw, the vinyl version of 10-14-83 is much better than the cd release. I'll extend my hightail offer to include my 24/96 vinyl transfer of this show, too.

I'd be happy to high tail to the first 3 responders a copy of my dbx correct and mastered copies.

You won't be disappointed.

Btw, these are not available on archive.org.

Just to stir the pot, am I really the only one here voting for Dick's #8? C'mon folks! It's knee buckling tasty!  ;)
"Whom owns the Cornell tapes/masters ?"

jafant,
Here are a couple links to read about the storage locker(s) story...

http://www.relix.com/articles/detail/whats_become_of_the_bettys/P2
Sounds like the last batch of the Betty Bords from the storage locker has been acquired and the tapes are being worked on, as of two years ago (?). This MUST include the early May ’77 shows...

I don't think is waiting for a special occasion to release them, its probably more so getting the tapes cooked and cleaned, transferred, then mastered and then releasing in the order they feel fit. haha...
Re previous post above... I also read a great description of a tube amp where the reviewer said that turning up the volume didn't so much increase the sound level, instead it increased the expansiveness of the sound stage and filled out the detail.

That at resonated with me.
@peter_s I can't recall where I read it recently but Phil Lesh talked about what it was like playing under the air pressure of the wall of sound. I think it absolutely changed their experimentation.
Not a big 78 fan myself but good to see some stuff released, I'm sure it will come my way eventually. Just checked I only have two 78's in my collection 1/31 and 5/14, plus 5/10 which was a Dicks Pick. I used to have the Red Rocks shows as tapes but they were lost along the way somewhere.
I have a feeling that Dead.net has this material, they are just awaiting some "special" occasion to release!
if you can find it, 5/11/78 might be the best show i've heard (yes, i like it better than 5/8/77, 8/27/72, 2/13-14/70). best LL>Supplication ever, monster Scarlet / Fire & Jerry going apeshit on Werewolves of London.
Yep, got my notice yesterday- jriggy.

from above- I did nuy the "Wake up to find Out" 3-cd set. Very nice w/ Marsalis sitting in w/ the boys.

That Stanley Theater show is a legend! Happy Listening!
Hey all,
Looks like the Betty Boards ARE indeed back in the vault! At least some of them are so far! The newest boxset has been released and the are Betty boards from July of '78 and David L. mentions it in his seaside chat about the boxset... SO, maybe the famed 5/8/77 --and others-- are coming down the pipe. Regardless, its great to know  the people representing the owners of the Betty boards wanted to get the tapes back in the vault! Awesome news for Deadheads!

Vicweast- try listening to the album Black Eyed Man by the Cowboy Junkies- it's terrific.
I think you'll get more useful information in a music forum like the SH Forums, or at a GD-related site like deadnetcentral.com.  Many posters at places like those have extensive listening experiences.

Have you listened to The Stanley Theater show from Pittsburgh? Year? 70's?That's a pretty smokin show !!
Also , check out the show from late 80's from Pittsburgh Mellon arena where they played a second set with the Neville Brothers. I spoke to Jerry the night before on the phone . I called his hotel room. He was very nice ! Told me that they had a surprise in store the following night. Did they ever!!
sold ,falafel for the faithful at Alpine Valley, drove out west for Eugene , Cali shows, saw them at Canada's Wonderland amusement park, Jerry on Broadway . Too many great memories!!:-) about 50 Dead shows and 25 Jerry Band shows. Funny,
I have not really listened to their music in 25 years . No desire really. I mean once in a while when on a road trip , I'll cue up studio Shakedown Street.  So many awesome memories!!!!!!!! Zero desire to see the farewell stuff though. Todd
Jafant, not in the series but don't forget 'Wake Up To Find Out' (3-29-90) with Branford Marsalis sitting in...the boys are on fire (as they were most of Spring '90). Most of my friends and I break up the Dead periods by who was on keys. Pig was short lived, Keith was solid but you also had to deal with Donna's vocals which in my opinion were not necessary. With Brent, his harmonizing growl and how he augmented the classics during the Dead's time of need was really remarkable. My only issue with Brent was his original songs. Some don't like the effects he used (or Jerry's mutron) but I could dig it. I've considered collecting the vinyl 'picks' but I am not a huge fan of the late '60's Dead...

Mars Hotel, American Beauty, Wake of the Flood, Reckoning.  Just finally found a clean copy of JG: Reflections. I will be playing that soon. American Beauty on early Green label WB sounds exceptional. The Dick's Pick have been available for a while, but I have not heard much feedback on pressing/sound...?

"The Pizza Tapes", although not sure if you now call it a "boot". Cheers,
Spencer
