Conrad Johnson CAV45-S2 8 ohm? 4 ohm? Other?

The CJ Slovak 6922 are 1970 vintage some are earlier. That have a good inventory.

The expense for CJ to use NOS EL34 tubes would be prohibitive. Those tubes are rare and expensive now. I’ve been looking for a set myself for my Conrad Johnson Classic 120. I’ve given up due to the expense. 
 

I’ve settled for upgrading the 6922 tubes in that amp and am delighted with the results. Btw - I don’t think the CJ provides NOS 6922 tubes. I’m pretty sure those are new Slovak tubes. The box was new and they look brand new. I switched them out. 

I need to see a lawyer since they are advertising NOS Mullards. 
what is the 65watt amp suppose to have what the 60watt doesn’t  and why just 5 more watts

They use reissue EL 34 as do all other manufacturers. Their 6922 are NOS Slovak. The v3 will be a full 65 watts per channel. Should be out in March.

Here's to hoping that CJ upgrades the CAV45 (S3) with more current and more power. It is slightly under Powered.

CJ does indeed use new production Mullard EL34.

Paul my Audionote AN-E are 6ohms and sounds great without changing anything The web site says Mullard NOS. I dont think CJ would use new production  Mullards

Sorry I was thinking Warnie7  was OP. OP you can open up amp and change ohms. I run 6 and 8 ohm speakers on 4 ohm tap and never felt a problem. I believe you need to know how to solder but don’t quote me on that. I was ready to solder  mine but never did. Call CJ they will do it for you.  Shep5580 if your looking for one I know where one is in Austin Texas, perfect shape.

Hi, you have Mullard new production tubes. I have a CJ cav45 S2 and mine came with the same Mullard tubes.
 

I also have some Mullard xf2 Blackburn plant el34’s. The xf2’s are better but they should be at $200 each. What surprised me was how nice the new production tubes sound.

 

I don’t use the amp as much as I should but If I didn’t have the xf2’s I could be perfectly fine with the new production Mullard’s. The xf2’s give you a little more sparkle and air and little better bass. I hear kt77’s sound good I just I haven’t tried it.
 

I’m guessing yours came with 2 NOS RCA signal tubes and one new production 6922. That 6922 can really make the amp shine try some amprex, Valvo and others if you already haven’t, it’s only one tube. The Amprex brightens it up Valvo mellows the amp out  more but keeps the highs. Good luck you have a very nice amp.

Someone mentioned the EL34s are Sophia Electric EL 34s, well mines have Mullard written on them and look nothing like Sophia Electric and the amp sounds incredible. Like it so much I have no need to ever look at amps again.

The CAV 45 is a great integrated amp......  its more like an amp with a volume control .   Stripped down, low parts count, sweet sounding.   If I were to buy an EL34 integrated amp, that would be the one.

Mine has become my daily listener. Giving my CJ ET7 and CJ Classic 120SE some time off for good behavior. I will more than likely do the Teflon cap upgrade on the CAV45. It is so easy to listen to, and I am driving 4ohm 87db speakers.

Hi  mezzanine give me your opinion on the S2.are you using a turntable for a source? I'm thinking about getting one. any  info appreciated.

Mezzanine, the factory can configure the amp for 16 ohms, which would be what you need.

It is 4 ohms. All CJ amps are 4 ohms. It also puts out more power than 45 watts. It is in essence a Classic 62 with input and volume control. With Sophia Electric EL 34s it is sonically closer to amps costing twice as much.
