How has the MK III turn out after this time? Saw some reliability issues (dead caps), and performance concerns (humming transformers), and wondering how has this evolved?
Looking for a small stereo SET. Don't need volume knob nor headphone amp nor dual inputs, but the Dynamo seems to perform outstandingly for the price and I'm considering it together with 45 and 2A3 costing about twice as much. Yet unreliability is something I can't live with as I'm far, far away from Canada. |
I used it with Zu DW with great results. I was just thinking today that if I had never moved on from the Dynamo and DWs that I would have been perfectly happy. Great pairing. |
bump to hear what speakers people are using their Dynamo's with. I've heard the Total Victory's, but not the Devore's or any of the Klipsch heritage speakers or other less common speakers. |
Bumping to the top. Really enjoying my Dynamo! |
Actually the Genalex Golden Lion KT 77's were the preference of several audio reviewers.I have yet to acquire an EL 34 that surpasses the performance.I acquired the Tungsols from a private source.Personally I would upgrade the power tubes first followed by signal and then tube rectifier.
|
Oh, and would you say that the input tubes would be the first to replace? Thank you! |
@markwatkiss you are successfully using KT77s? The manual states not to use different tubes. Where did you purchase your Tungsols? |
When I hear (literally) how good many new tubes are, and how inexpensive they are relative to certain more "precious" vintage (or Chinese) ones, It makes me glad they exist. And yeah, a pair of 7581As are fairly inexpensive...I bought mine from "local" (MA) dealer Viva...another cool tube company. |
Have seen your comments in another thread where you referenced the Tung Sols.Gonna get some, price is right.
|
The MKII version of that amp seems like a cool thing...I was on the fence between one of those and the Dennis Had amp I actually bought, but Had's amps are somewhat less available or at least rarely available anyway so there's that. Also, I currently prefer the Tung Sol 7581As over anything else I've tried in this amp including the excellent GL KT77s. |
@markwatkiss Congrats on your new amp! I also have an EL34 stereo amp running Gold Lion KT77's and an RCA rectifier. Good tubes, I hope your amp is everything you were hoping. Looking forward to your impressions and happy listening!
|
Yes I was considering the 300B version but opted for the EL34.I sold my MKII with the stock tubes keeping my vintage tube complement.Tube rectifier is a 1945 RCA 5AR4GY with hanging filament, power tubes are Genalex KT77's,and signal tubes are Tungsol JAN 6SL7WGT.I have spent hours auditioning several brands of vintage and current production tubes with my MKII and in my opinion for this amp the aforementioned tube complement is the most desirable.Power cable is the Silver Ghost by Mark Tunis and interconnects are Mad Scientist. Will update on my impressions after 100 hours.

@tswisla Wow, didn't know they had the special option! I stand corrected. |
The Dynamo MKIII is now available on special order optimized for 300B output tubes instead of the EL 34 which is still standard.
You are both right. The amp can be special ordered with 300B output tubes. |
@smrex13 I have it right in front of me! See their website!!! |
@tswisla It doesn't use 300b tubes. I think you have it confused with another amp.
|
Just purchased one! It arrived, but one of the tubes was broken and I am waiting for a replacement. I have been very curious about the 300b tubes that it came with. Psvanes seem to be very expensive, does anyone have any experience with the tubes that are supplied? As far as power cords go, I am going to use a stock one for now, but the owner highly recommended his Extreme power cord. Have you set it up yet? I am really concerned about hum/noise that some people talk about. |
