18 inch subwoofer vs multiple 12 inch subwoofers with bookshelf speakers
I used to have 1 REL sub, tried 2 Rythmiks F12 and preferred the latter, then added 2 additional F12 for a nice improvement, then added a miniDSP 4x10HD and Multi Sub Optimizer (MSO) for an even better result. Very much in line with above posts. ...
Duelund conversion to DIY Helix Geometry Cabling
@williewonka  You mentioned carbon fiber mains connectors above. Are those carbon fiber bodies connected to the ground wire in those or is the carbon fiber absorbing RFI/EMI from just being there? If the latter, I guess I could try with carbon fi...
Rel t9x or Rythmik F12G
I haven't heard the T9x, but had Rel Storm III and replaced it with two F12. Way better and cheaper. Eventually (about 6 years later) went with four F12. This gave a way more even response, plus more body. I would go with one F12 and see if later...
Would you choose 1 ou 2 subwoofers for a stereo set?
I had one vented REL and was happy vs no sub. Moved to two 12" sealed Rythmiks and was much happier. Now I have 4x 12" sealed Rythmiks and the improvement has been great again! If you have total flexibility for positioning subs then 2 might be en...
DSP Active Crossover
@jaytor  Great system, and sorry I'm arriving 2 weeks late! I also do DIY, dipole, AMT tweeter driven by SET, although have 4 sealed DIY Rythmik subs. And use DSP for digital xo and room correction. I use Acourate software for this, and believe ...
Current production 45-type tubes
No opinions?  I guess Emission Labs are it.

lynn_olson 74 posts 07-04-2023 at 02:08am  Well, enough of the rant on DACs. Addressing the question in the post by lewinskyh01, what does a really good tube linestage bring to the table if the DAC can directly drive the power amps? A sense...

I hope you don't mind me going a tangent, but delving into modern and old technologies and taking advantage of such knowledgeable folks sharing with an open mind I wanted to humbly ask what function does a preamp fulfill in the context of a single...

Undoubtedy individual preference is paramount regarding "best" listening volume. I wonder how certain speaker designs might affect that as well. I'm into DIY speakers and I'm missing the palpable feeling with my 18" open baffle midbasses than I ha...
New Class D amplifiers
Good point about Nilai500. Would be great if someone heard them together with one of the GaN amps mentioned in this thread, especially those in the lower price bracket.
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
@raysmtb1  Thank you for posting your experience! Do you happen to know anyone using the Okto DaC8 Pro? I have a 4-way active stereo system and have had my eye on this DAC. The Pro version has 6dB less dynamic range than the stereo (the stereo r...
Class D ICEpower 1200as2 vs. Purifi 1ET7040SA amplifiers
@dbt  AGD certainly gets high praise consistently. I believe the Tempos are around $5k and at that price point another GaN amp that gets high praise is Atma-Sphere class D. You can search comments in this forum about how owners of Ralph's tube am...
Your experience of moving to two subs
I've gone from 1 Rel to two Rythmiks and now adding 2 more Rythmiks. Going from the Rel Storm III (vented) to two Rythmiks F12 (sealed, in heavy DIY box, aluminum cone) was definitely an improvement in every way. My audio setup is in the living r...
New Class D amplifiers
Indeed, functionality is higher in the sense user has more options in how to connect the amp to a DAC, be it built in or external. But my understanding is that at the time of developing their GaN amp Peachtree  was solving for how to make that le...
New Class D amplifiers
@orchardaudio  Thanks for the quick reply. While the product you linked does indeed have digital input like the GAN1, I believe these are very different concepts. Yours seems to require an internal DAC - effectively a DAC+amp in one box - while t...
