I hear what HHF reports. |
It depends. You list all good brands. There are others comparable and others worse. Others still will be extraordinary!
Its ALL SUBJECTIVE—. That said…
I adore the sound of VCap. Special product. Tell us your more about your amp project. It will help folks here to know about the amp you need to re-cap or cap by design. |
Its the canary grand reference which has audiotheta caps i wanted to upgrade to a better cap then the audiotheta I was basically thinking jupiter HT bee wax as they are rightly priced and affordable so are the audyn true copper here is where the confusion is should it be jupiter or audyn true copper they say copper is more organic and natural does it mean juptier is not |
To be honest, I don’t for the life of me know why all the obsession with caps. Not that they don’t make a difference. They definitely do. But so do diodes, and for a lot less money and with less risk of changing tone or response balance. Seriously. Get some nice fast smooth HEXFREDs and see.
If you want to do caps, study the link above. That’s what I did. Pick your caps based on how they sound from reliable sources like HHF. Unless you can find someone here who has compared and written as many evaluations (which I seriously doubt) that’s the way to go. |
JUPITER HT PAPER BEEWAX - the most musical and natural of the bunch.
|
even better than the HTs are the copper foils and paper from Jupiter. Have used both, as well as the Duelands, and Jensen copper foils (Jensens are no longer available). The Jupiter copper foils are more organic sounding. Original poster did not mention what amp they were putting these caps in. On some older gear with high GNFB, you may not hear as much of an improvement as you would on amps with lower feedback. |
I have Mundorf SESGO .47 caps on each of the kt88's sockets. Thats 12X$50, cost me a fortune, but worth it. bass is more solid and extended. Nice nuances. The EVO silver gold are $25 but you will not get the same performance. My tech hates Mundorf botique caps, Most techs don't believe in botique caps. In some places they make a nice nuance, in others miniscule pop. Woofer section of speaker nice gains.

mundorfs sounded less dynamic and too veiled in my system. what caps do shindo amps use? |
mundorfs sounded less dynamic
Can you tell which which M cap, as really the only ones to use are SESGO smaller values and Supreme SGO in large values If you use EVO, = OK but not up to SESGO |
My ears prefer the Jupiter HT vs copper, although the copper is more detailed, just not quite as musical. slightly slower sounding too
|
@ Jmolsberg where did you use the jupiter cap HT
|
coupling caps in a couple single ended amps. |
I have the jupiter copper wax in pre amp and was thinking jupiter HT to balance the sound whats your opinion
|
Copper in Pre and HT in amp |
sounds like a mighty fine plan to me |
In our direct comparisons comparing the V-Caps Oil to Milflex Copper - to Jupiter Paper, Jupiter Copper - the basic V-Caps Oil out performed all of them in our directed heated triode 101D tubed DAC, 6SN& based preamp and hybrid 6SN& based power amp. We have used V-Cap Copper - which we really like and the newer caps they offer all to our satisfaction over the other capacitors.
We sound the Jupiter Paper to be muted and lifeless, The copper better but no real out of the box sound, the Milflex much better but even they are getting expensive and the V-Cap Oils to just sound musically better and more open sounding. Move up the VG-Cap line and they get better.
Happy Listening.
