Changing Of The Guard at McIntosh

From Charlie Randall:

"As we approach the one-year anniversary of Bose’s acquisition, I have made the decision together with the Bose team to step down as President of McIntosh in November."

I have a Bose radio , overpriced and just so-so

. They are mostly a speaker company nothing like the grand McIntosh. This is to me quite a disappointment. You know they forced Charlie out.Probably make all our Mac stuff more valuable now I've a MA7900 and a MR71 tuner finest sounding radio ever made.

I have a MAC 1500 and a MAC 1700, beautiful warm sounding gear from the 1960's and they both look new.  That is where my money goes these days, to vintage gear.

I expect that this was arranged and contracted for prior to the acquisition of McIntosh; for the president to stay on a year to help with a smooth transition and then leaving with a large payout.  Pretty much one of the normal ways these things go.

The first of what is likely to be more changes to come.  Who’s up for some Mc headphones or McLifestyle sound systems? Get your wallets ready.

The modern business brand acquisition model is this: "Buy a name brand, raise prices, cut costs"

Reducing staff, cutting quality are the easiest savings results.

In a world that judges performance on quarters this seems to make sense. In reality, the brand's value becomes reduced.

No surprise with this change at Mac. As noted above, it’s pretty much the standard business model for this kind of acquisition. And it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Only time will tell. I have been a McIntosh owner for 50+ years. (See my virtual system for my current setup). I don’t anticipate any future upgrades, but you never know. 😉. I will be following the company interest.

Sign of the Times..

Erosion of our institutions, albeit the Mcintosh fans have had a good ride. Now let's break it down and repurpose the parts that have value.

Mcintosh needs more influencers who have tribal instincts. Bose needs a lifestyle coach that can put humpty back together again.

Worked at a McIntosh dealer back in the 70's Vintage gear was much better made than a lot of the stuff available today.

The beginning of the end??

Only ever owned on Mac amp and sent it packing after 6 months.
