just rechecked the interview, Pass owns 4 Sony CX90ES Changers...
@jusam Sony was co-inventor of SACD, this changer is the top of the line ES type. It also has digital outs if you want to use an outboard dac. Check about 1:50 in the video, Nelson Pass owns one:

I have and like the Integra 3.4, and have it running through a Denafrips Ares ll DAC. I also still use my kids 20 year old Onkyo 390 , very similar, and it still runs great, never an issue...the Integra sounds pretty good too with it's internal DAC...I do streaming, but there's a time and/or place where a changer is either preferable or the only option... |
I agree, Sony. I used to be more social, have big company picnics, frequent parties. I kept both a single player and a changer in the system for parties. Now the changer is down in my garage/shop system. Some changers have the controls above the drawer, easy to see and operate when the drawer is open. Others, the open drawer conceals the buttons if they are below the drawer, seems stupid, However, I realized while going thru a batch of various brands: Drawers up top are much easier to work on, cover off, open the drawer: there are the belts easily changed, and you can clean and lube, all with no disassembly other than the cover. IF you buy a used unit, have seller verify it finds the SACD layer, sadly some lose the ability to find/play the SACD layer. My friend brought his player to my house last Sat. Couldn’t find SACD. I used a simple cd cleaner with brushes, bingo it could now find the SACD layer. Doesn’t always work, but high five this time. The lasers get weak over time related to hours of use, so if used, find one seller says hardly used, second sstem, never hooked up... |
