1) Mazda 323 2) Mazda 323 (I don't have money in the future) 3) Mazda 323 (I don't care the car if I have lot of $$$)
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Just curious. People have asked about watches,
cigars, beer, and even ones income here.
1: What do you drive (daily & weekends)?
2: What might you be driving in the future?
3: What would you drive if $$$ was no object (pick 2 ;-)?
My answers to the above:
1: Toyota truck.
2: Newer Toyota truck.
3: Lamborghini Murcielago & McLaren F1.

1 99 Porsche Boxster standard stereo/cd, Porsche European Sports suspension owned from new. 2 Same Boxster with 3.4 engine to replace the current 2.5 3 Same Boxster, Porsche 904 for vintage racing, Bentley Continental for nights on the town, Aston Martin Vanquish for road trips, Hummer H1 for ski trips, Costco visits etc |
2003 Honda Accord special edition 6sp 240 HP Coupe. Has reworked suspension and steering. I will drive for one year and then have my local dealer tighten up suspension even more, and have them add a few more horses. Does 0-60 in 6.2 secs now, I'd like to get that below 6.0. Dream Car: Porsche convertible (anything except the Boxster) in God's (Porsche) red. |
Daily beater 87 Toyota MR2, going out in style 2001 BMW 325ci. I don't even lock the Toyota when I go to the grocery store and I don't get mad when a large truck puts a parking lot dent on it. The BMW only has 9,700 miles. BMW |
I drive a 1992 Mercedes 300TE; white on navy blue (vinyl). It has an Alpine 7894 CD player and a pair of Alpine coax speakers in the dash; stock in the rear doors. I intend to install a McIntosh four channel amp and a pair of ADS coax speakers in the doors. Probably will not bother with a sub as it is difficult to do in this station wagon. Ladyfriend drives a 2002 VW Jetta GLS TDI wagon with optional VW stereo; not bad but adequate. Car is too small for anybody larger than 5'9" in my opinion. |
weekdays - 96 Mustang (heap..was my wife's car) weekends - 2001 SportTrac (what wife got when we bought a new vehicle....I pay for my hobbies in cars to my wife....but that's okay...at least her taste is improving now that I am actually making some money) soon, it's my turn for a new vehicle. If I stay in SoCal, maybe the new convertable Z? (not condusive to my nice auto sound system) If we end up moving to Oregon (hope so...AWD becomes a want) maybe the new Subaru Unsound is talking about? Probably the Infinity FX35. $ no object? Well, then weekdays I would drive a Mercedes SL55 AMG weekends, definitly a 73 Ferrari Daytona. |
I used to drive an 88 Acura Legend coupe. I drove it for 275K miles but had to put it to sleep. It would have been too expensive to keep on the road as it was starting to fall apart. So lately i've been driving a 95 Galant. I hope to remedy that tho. This time next year i hope to be driving a Lexus IS300. 5 speed stick, of course. Maybe then they'll have the Mark Levinson system for the car. |
A 1982 BMW 320i daily and on nice days, my perfect 1972 BMW Bavaria. Neither have good stereos but they are adequate for a car. When I finish school and get a job, I will get a new BMW 330ci (perhaps an M3 if I can swing it but then again the home stereo will need upgrading by then...!). My ultimate car would be either a Ferrari 355 or 575M being the Ferrari buff that I am. |
My current daily driver is a 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora. It is black extereio and black interior. Options include Moonroof and Autobahn package. My next car will probably be a 2002 or 2003 Audi A8. My ultimate car would be the next generation Audi A8. For pure fun, my choice would be an Audi TT convertible, with the new V6. |
Gunbei, I'll save you the wrath of Erinie, Subaru makes the Impreza WRX. Hold on to your hat the STi is commming to the US soon. 300 horsepower @ 6000 RPM's, 300Lbs. torque @ 4000 RPM's, 9000 RPM redline, 6 speed short throw transmission, driver controled water cooling for the inter-cooler, variable timing, additional front LSD with driver controls for front to rear power bias, upgraded brakes, tighter turning radius, lower upgraded suspension, 17" BBS wheels with upgraded rubber, better lights, improved aerodynamics and this is the sweet part, should be less than $32,000. Should embarass quite a few much more expensive auto's. If only they'd make a wagon version! |
1 Volkswagen Passat 2002 2 Volkswagen Jetta 2002 3 Volkswagen New Beetle 2003 I work for the factory. REL2 All of these vehicles are equipped with factory Monsoon stereo systems with CD players. I do not take car audio seriously because of the obvious limitations and syntheses but I do like to listen to music while cruising. |
There are 2 car brands "Ourselves" and "Themselves" , yes, sister company like Acura and Honda, Lexus and Toyota, Infinity & Nissan....Usually 2 different models in these 2 sister companies will share the same car-body chassis (body frame) because of project budget... Only the interior of the more expensive one has leather and AC powered windows and all that. From the outside, it's hard to tell by people who dont know much about cars... Like Infinity G20 and Nissan Sentra..... To us Audiophile people, we usually drive the higher more expensive brand "Ourselves" and most of us had purchased the 2003 new model call "Crazy" To the non-audiophiles outsiders, when the "Nut" body-chassis is 95% identical to "Crazy" and didnt realize we are actually driving the higher class brand; will probably think that we drive the brand "Themselves" and the 2003 new model call "Nuts" The answer is... Audiophiles usually drive cars from the brand "Ourselves", they like new things and would spend money to get the best, so most of them have the new 2003 model called "Crazy" Us audiophiles will tell you ..... ------- We drive "OURSELVES" "CRAZY" ------- Outsiders usually dont realize that it's the more expensive brand "Ourselves" that we are driving, and got confused with the lower sister brand "Themselves", and of cox they will also get confused with the 2003 model called "Nut" that shares the same car-body chassis as the "Crazy" So usually outsiders, they will tell you... ------- They drive "Themselves" "Nut!" ------- Errrr........Yes, this's very very very corny... I did so to kill time... Dont be mad... Take it easy... haha... Hapy New Year... |
Oh, I forgot to answer the specific question that started the thread.....and here is part of the beauty of motorcycles: 1: What do you drive (daily & weekends)? BMW R1150GS 2: What might you be driving in the future? BMW R1150GS 3: What would you drive if $$$ was no object (pick 2 ;-)? You guessed it: BMW R1150GS!! (and money is certainly a concern) OK, since you asked to pick two: Ducatti 999 (but that still holds second place to my GS) |
If it's got more than two wheels, why bother!? I ride a BMW R1150GS (motorcycle) year-round. Unfortunately I also need to own a vehicle for occasionaly hauling a bunch of photo gear around (my occupation), and to take my two (large) dogs anywhere with me (they are unwilling passengers on the motorcycle) so I've got a generic Ford mini-van for that purpose. In the past I've owned sporty cars, luxury cars, and an all-terrain car (78' Land-Cruiser). The latter was a lot of fun, but they're all cages and none of them feels very exciting to drive for very long. Motorcycles are in my blood. I've tried quitting over the past twenty years of riding, but it never lasts long. Just like the audio gear, I'm addicted! |
