Canare 4s11 how good are they ?
My system consists of Audible Illusion 3A pre. Belles Virtuoso amp. Bluesound streamer Lynn Lp12 Vandersteen 2Sig CE and kimber 12t 8'
Most Vandersteen dealers recommend Audioquest biwire like the Rocket 44. Recently, I have read good things about the Canares, which are considered budget, entry level, etc. Has anyone tried them with Vandys. What other speaker cables are a good match for the Vandys 8' $300 top.
Thanks
I use a set in each of my systems and they certainly are not entry level. I did a review of the 4S11 speaker cables including the burn in process. These cables are so good that they replaced cables more than 10 times the price. Most recording studios use the Canare cables. Search for my thread, lots of users commented. |

I replaced my $2500 Purist with Canare. The result was a more realistic presentation. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/canare-4s11?highlight=Canare |
IMO, you should always start with Belden or Canare so you will have a baseline in case you later decide to try something more expensive. I have used Belden 10-gauge and in some systems it sounds just fine and in others, there was no comparison to Purist or Audience. I would just buy the Canare and listen until you're ready to try something new. With at $300 budget, you're not going too far. And btw, if your dealer claims something else is better, they should lend you the cables to make a comparison yourself. They might be very right about that. |
I went with 4s12f...10 awg...very descent (canare wire) for what the layout is.I have tried all the name bargain and you have to draw line some were doing your own i feell. Mogami 3104 3103 canare 4s11 Furez 4/12 And one that wasnt a budget expense...4s12f is very promising with my amp (200 watt/speakers) |
I have used Canare 4S11 I purchased from Blue Jean Cables with bannanas and set-up for bi-wiring. They sounded good and they were about $100. I have compared them to Rocket 33s and Kimber Kables. I preferred them to the Rocket 33s (purchased in bulk and added the bannana connections on myself) and I ultimately went with Kimber Bi-focals. Start with quality basic cables and then upgrade and refine when you get to a point where you are pleased with your system. Cables don't make the same impact as new components and speakers. |
Yes, 4S11 is a very good speaker cable, I also admit that when I look at high end mass produced speaker cables I look to see if their size matches a 4S11 with a sleeve. Vandy's really like unterminated cable on their terminal strips but be very careful, use a magnifying glass with a bright light to make sure there are no stray strands... Do some research or contact Belles Virtuoso about what is required for load being sent out to speaker. My amp could care less about capacitance and needs inductance and resistance to be low, yours could be quite the opposite. |
Well after the heckling my audio (snob) buddy gave me this weekend "why dont you just go to home depot!..he,he,"...Hes just upset with himself probably...i moved the 4s12f back in and dam if there isnt something about there wire that my system really likes...Know they take some hours as well.I tried the silver route for a while and copper works for me/my music/system these days...Using vh audio v twist interconnects fwiw. |
Shows what he knows. Everyone knows Lowe's has better cable. ;) |
I've had Canare 4S11 through BJC for more than, gosh, 8 years maybe? They've been in and out of the system depending on preference or just to change things up. On my system, they present a little thicker in the midrange, but have just as smooth highs as the Cardas 101 through AA - both non-fatiguing. Imaging may be a little bit better on Cardas. Like all things, system dependent. |
When I needed shorter speaker cables, I got the Canare 4S11 cables for a temporary measure until I could sell my shotgunned acoustic zen reference and get something else. The bjc Canare set was around $80. They have been in my system now for a few years and no desire to change them.. I do believe that cables make a difference and I find a Canare to be neutral and better than those costing almost 20x the price.. IME |

I have had my fair share of speaker cables over the years. The most expensive being 2400.00 new, I haven't had any in the super expensive range as far as cables go, so I can't speak to that. But I can say the Canare 4s11 works great in my current system, so good I see no need to upgrade or even look elsewhere. |
