It is a very nice amp. Try using EML tubes. Also the 2A3T nature sound tube is great too. If you like the a011 try the A06. It's beautiful. Yamamoto make excellent sound amps. |

I haven't heard your amplifier specifically, but feel 2A3 amplifiers are the most overlooked components in audio. While the 300B gets all the press, the 2A3 is perhaps the best sounding, real world output tube out there.
I'm not at all surprised you love this amplifier, and wish you all the best for many years to come with it. |

Buy the way none of you asked the makeup of my system. I feel system matching is paramount as any amplifier is unable to play alone. My simple setup is . Yamamoto 2A3 Intergrated amplifier.
Cain&Cain alder wood single driver speakers . Wadia 830 cd player . Omega mikro wire throughout system. Home made wall panels & corner traps covered with silk. vintage nos tubes. |

An interesting question and since our systems (speakers especially) are very different. Fortapache's Abbys/2a3 Yammamoto simply make music with immediacy and excellent pace with no embellishment. I was struck by agility of the 2a3/abby's. A Jazz lover's system for sure with a purity that was compelling. My AN-e's with 300b's add a richness and texture to the music. A palpable reach out and touch richness but with clarity and pacing. I would love to hear my E's driven by the Yammamoto. Niether of us use preamps.
Both systems can play many types of music, but if I were playing Rock and Classical I would lean to the Audio Notes and if I were a mostly Jazz fan I might head towards the Abbys. |
Charles1dad. First and foremost.I have appreciated your intelligent audio insight as well as your fine system for a while. Yes the system conveys the total gestalt of the musical moment. It conveys the soul of every musician involved. I feel music must stir ones emotion in a compelling gripping way that makes one feel as you know the musician personally! This is how the yamamoto amp makes me feel. I really would like to hear the yamamoto 45 amp. |

I can relate completely to your priorities,communication,soul,emotion and involvement.If these are absent nothing else matters or can substitute for them.Your system must provide you with an abundance of musical pleasure and honesty. It`s funny you mention feeling as though you know the musician.I`ve come to notice that connection when listening.I really feel as if on some level I know Carmen McRae,Thelonious Monk,Miles and Chet Baker among others I hear often.

If one thing is certain, everyone has an opinion about most anything.So much in life is subjective. Chet Baker is one of my favorite musicians regardless of instrument.Why? His playing moves me and I want to hear more,he gets to me.I understand he couldn`t read music(according to G. Mulligan) and there may be some technical flaws in his approach,I don`t care! Chet just flat out communicates and saturates me with his beautiful horn and the major emotion he generates.I listen to Chet as often as I do Clifford Brown,Miles,Art Farmer etc. They all touch me and pull me in and keep me there.Chet is very high on my list in this regard.His ability to express such emotion with his horn is remarkable.
Fortapache,your Yamamoto is speaking the truth as is my Frankenstein. If others don`t appreciate his talent that`s their loss. I won`t criticise someone`s preferences I just know what appeals to me.

Thanks so much for your kind words Fortapache! I think most of the credit goes to my Audio Note speakers which I dearly love and come to respect more each day. They are on the warm side of neutral but as long a I taylor my electronics to compliment sonic bliss is not far away!
Thanks as well to the nod to my vinyl rig. The VCap and AN Copper Cap combo in my home brew phono pre is working out pretty well so far.

I think you'll like all the suggested Baker CDs. If you could choose only one, I'd select "Chet" if features Kenny Burrell, Pepper Adams, Herbie Mann and Bill Evans. Chet plays in top form and his horn sounds gorgeous with his rich beautiful tone. Each musician plays wonderfully.

Totally agree with Charles 1 on his assessment of "Chet". I bought a vinyl copy a week ago and cannot get over how beautiful the trumpet sounds. It is as if Baker is somehow still breathing into his horn after he releases a note. Every phrase from his trumpet lofts into the air and suspends there as its meaning grows in relation to the previous phrase and the phrase he is about to play. Pepper Adams Bari sax is the perfect foil to Baker. The engineer added some reverb or perhaps the room they recorded in had a natural reverb. This adds to the richness.
An early must have is the Pacific Jazz Records two CD set of Gerry Mulligan Quartet. 42 tunes. Mulligan and Baker weave in and out of each other's musical space in a pleasing Bachian display of improvised counterpoint. |

Fortapache,I got my Yamamoto DAC from the U.S.distributor in February 2010. He`s no longer in bussiness. It`s such a special DAC,with chet and most other jazz CDs you are in the music venue with them.What ever Shigeki Yamamoto learned building SET amps he sure applied this to his DAC.

Is there a particular higher SQ edition of "Chet" CD that you know of to recommend? With quick research I did see the Orrin Keepnews' Collection with one bonus track. A "reissue" version had 5 bonus tracks. |

Do any of you happen to know whether you can roll a Sophia Electric Aqua 274B in the A-011? I've run them in other amps that wouldn't permit a standard 274B. They sound great and would love to try one of them in my Yamamoto.
