I used to obsess about C7 power cables because the choice is not that large. I tried Furutech G-320, Audioquest NRG 1.5, Nordost Purple Flare plus a quite a few home brew designs. Out of all my testing, I thought the Nordost Purple Flare was the best, followed by Audioquest NRG 1.5 After Nordost new Heimdall range came out, I splashed out on a Heimdall 2 C7 cable, and I thought it was worse than the 1/4 price Purple Flare. But I found that disconnecting the ground wire in the AC power connector end resolved this, and it became the best C7 cable i have. Unlike the Purple Flare and NRG 1.5 which use a dedicated 2 core design, the Heimdall 2 C7 just uses the standard 3 core found in the rest of the range. It seems the ground, if its connected at the power distribution end (but floating at the component end) acts as an antenna picking up noise and hash. It did for me. If you have this C7 I suggest disconnecting ground and see if it's any better. |
