BDP-105: IN/OUT Options. What/where decoding, huh?

(separate from a bypass the AVR with ’front stereo system’ audio quality revision which I now have no questions about)

Move my Oppo 105 to Home Theater for it’s Better Processing (sound and video).

Now:

Sony 4K Smart TV; Sony Blu-Ray; Sony AVR (no pre-out).
Fios Coax > Cable Box hdmi > AVR hdmi (arc) > Smart TV.
Blu-Ray hdmi > AVR.
PC hdmi > AVR.
VHS component > AVR

NET: ethernet cable to each piece (except VCR)
(arc): Audio Return Channel: AVR’s HDMI 3 (arc) to Smart TV, (allows Smart TV audio back to AVR).
............................................

CHANGE: Oppo 105 replaces Sony Blu-Ray

optional ways to let it try to do better.
what/where/how to get best video/audio decoding?

1. NET from Fios Router > Oppo, easy.

a. updates
b. I guess Oppo has some of it’s own ’Smart TV’ features to stream from that feed to my Smart TV. In that case Oppo controls that content
c. can Oppo ’pass’?: NET > Oppo hdmi > Smart TV. (cable box not involved). Thus use Smart TV to select streaming content, but how then get Oppo’s superior processing?

2. Cable Box move it’s hdmi > Oppo. (easy, goes to AVR Now).

a. Oppo hdmi 1 > Smart TV for better video
b. Oppo hdmi 2 > AVR for audio (better?)
c. AVR hdmi (arc) > Smart TV (no change)

what/where/how to get best video/audio decoding?

as always, thanks in advance for help with this,

Elliott, The Oppo 105 SHINES as a DAC for a high quality music server....Like Auralic or Aurender (or any streamer like a Bluesound Node 2i) with its USB 2.0 audio input connection. Then you can connect to your stereo via its super high quality XLR stereo outputs. Of course it excels at spinning CD,DVD,s Blue Rays ect...When you use the onboard streaming for video through Netflix your getting the best video and sound possible. Although i think options for video streaming services might be a little dated. (OPPO hasnt made these players for a few years now)
this is for Video based content:

most involving Music: Voice; American Idol; .... Got Talent; World of Dance; Songland; Music DVD's; Movies with great music;

I don't watch commercials, watched my last one age 13. a lot recorded and played from the Cable Box's Hard Drive,

or streamed i.e.Voice performances from all over the world via YouTube, ......

IF playing recorded onto DVR, then played back, any compromise involved?

new setup would be:

Fios Coax > Cable Box recording/played back hdmi > Oppo then Oppo sends video only hdmi 1 > Smart TV and Oppo sends audio only hdmi 2 > AVR.

I don't know what/where/when decoding, conversion, special capabilities get involved. How a device early in the chain knows to let Oppo handle it later,

record/playback: any compression/compromise? I haven't noticed any difference live/recorded .....

Keep in mind that the streaming companies apply their own compression that limits the quality of their stream.  I don’t know the answer to the OP question, which as I understand it, is can the 105
be used to video decode even if the app for the service lives on a different component.  However, even if the answer is in the affirmative, I suspect the quality of what the streaming service sends to you in the first place will place the biggest limitation on what emerges from your rig
It's all too complicated,

I'll just hook it up in HT, let the machines talk to each other, and find out if Better Video and/or Better Audio after a few months.

But, first, I'm changing HT center and rear surrounds to Klipsch arriving Saturday, get familiar first, then compare to existing Blu-Ray which has convenience of full coordination with Sony TV and Sony AVR.

Recommended awesome DVD for comparison?

I'm gonna play my 'Domino' movie, and my Sophie Milman Live in Montreal: via existing Sony, then thru Oppo with it's two hdmi setup, see if I can see or hear any difference. Two of the few I have seen multiple times they SOUND so good!!!

if your type of thing, buy them both friends,

hooked it up, it's crazy how these machines translate ....

I'll get familiar with the Oppo for a while, then the shoot-out against the existing Sony.

If not better video or sound, I've just added another remote and layer of switching, out, sell it.

Sophie Milman in Montreal
Domino movie

Oppo performed identically to my Sony. no improved video or sound, extra remote, I'm gonna sell it.

I did the latest update, and it added a lot of streaming icons.

I don’t stream music, and I have read the processors are great as you say, but the interface for streaming is important and Oppo’s interface is not great.

I listed it on ebay, $975. buy it now

Others have 105’s listed here, so I didn’t want to compete here.
