That's FutureMan on the bass; he is really something....
Bass lovers - Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo
I admit I am a little slow - this was released in 1991, so many of you are already familiar with this band/recording and possibly have worn this album out, but while I have heard the name of this band before, I have never heard them before. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones is the complete band name, just to not offend the supporting bandmates :)
Thanks to Roon radio this track came on, and I immediately perked up and took notice to the wonderful deep rich bass coming from a fretless bass!
So if you are not aware of this recording, and love deep bass, this is a track you'll love- the whole instrumental album is pretty good. I don't see a high res option in Qobuz but the redbook sounds just fine :) I guess I would call this music jazz?
@minkwelder - thank you for that correction; been a long time since I've seen or listened to them. Yeah, Victor is an amazing bassist, and I didn't realize he was FutureMan's brother - I love that instrument that FutureMan plays!! |
That is weird all right- does nothing for me, I prefer acoustic drums all the way- I did a little poking around and found out Bela has won 15 grammys with 33 nominations! that must be how I know the name I see "The Sinister Minister" track won the grammy for best instrumental - same Victor Wooten bass going on - almost like a solo- I hope I remember to listen to this track once a week going forward -so much music to explore!

So I just ran across this on Amazon. I have the Ultra HD level subscription. Album by Billy Strings called Renewal. The last song is called "Leaders". Plays on Amazon HD at 24/96 FLAC. First time I heard it was walking with my LG V40 playing to my Sennheiser M4 headphones. The bass was so deep and strong that I went home and listened to it on my home system. KEF R3 Metas with two HSU subs. Let me tell you, this was one of those JBL pin your ears back commercials as far as bass power and depth. I did some research and there is a synth credit on the album. I would call this a great demo to test your equipment for bass capability, I tried it listening with my HIFI Man Anandas, drivin by my JDS Atom DAC/Amp combo. It could not reproduce it at any reasonable level. Well worth a listen. |
