Anyone else order Caladans from Clayton Shaw?

After watching videos and reading positive reviews I ordered a pair of Caladans. It’s been 2 weeks and I have never received an email confirmation of sale.  The charge on my cc was from Spatial Audio.  I have called and left VMs twice and also emailed Clayton’s info address. Crickets !

Has anyone else experienced this?  I assume he’s extremely busy but I’m getting a little anxious.

I know clayton is swamped with orders and is extremely busy. But there are far too many reports in this thread of people not receiving a reply to emails. Most of us are busy with work and day to day activities too. But business owners should carve out an hour a day to reply to messages. It makes you wonder if the people inquiring about a purchase are being ignored in the same numbers as those who have already paid deposits.

I spoke with Clayton a few minutes ago. He was away from his office so could not get me an estimated ship date but did said he would call back later this afternoon after he looked at the production schedule. He said they (Spatial) are working on mid-November orders which there are roughly 200. Spatial is producing approx 40 units a month so it will be interesting to see where my order fits in.  He apologized for the delays and says there have been some supply chain issues getting the baffles and tweeters.

All they need to do is publish a google doc with the entire list of orders so people don't need to wonder about the status of their order. This would drastically cut down on the phone calls and make everyone's lives easier.

Now on Clayton’s website, in the forums section is a list of orders to be filled in July. Check to see if your name is on the list.

I started this thread last November. I finally received my Caladan’s today. I haven't unboxed them yet but once I do, and have some run time, I’ll let you know my thoughts.  Over the summer I also ordered and received custom Volti Rival speakers which are still breaking in. That was a fun process with Greg Roberts.

I had listened to Caladan last Saturday  during PAF 2024.

It was driven by LTA integrated and source wereLTA Aero Dac and INnous sever.

The cost of total system including cables is less than 20K$.

But it sounds fast and clean with reasonable bass.

I hope your wait is worth it.smiley

Congrats whiteknee!!  I'm an early December orderer.  Am hoping to receive them by end of year.

Speculation- until he knew how many orders he had for speakers before ordering parts seems an obvious source of delay.

whiteknee, looking forward to your evaluation of your new Caladans. Hopefully you will do a comparison with your Volti Rivals. I ordered in March, so it looks like the long wait will continue. However, I have had Volti Razz’s on my radar for quite some time. I haven’t cancelled my Caladan order yet, as they are half the price of the Razz’s. Not sure if I wanna wait for the Caladans or not. My head says no, but my wallet says yes! Looking forward to your post.

I don't have any plans to cancel.  But, would guess at least some have because they couldn't tolerate their money being tied up for so long.

The next logical question is if someone cancelled were there any issues getting a refund?

I’m thinking of cancelling. Clayton is not responding to emails and every update he sends out contains a new issue holding up production. Shipping out less than 100 pairs is almost a year is absolutely poor planning on his his part

I wanted to order / try these speakers.

His website still says "The current lead time for new orders is 90 days."

If he has 300 orders in cue that is over $1M USD in his hands.

This is no way to do business. If you put the money on your CC and wait 1-2 years, and never get your speakers, good luck taking that up with your CC company if he does not issue a refund.

@jeff_pvd i placed my order back in February. As best I can tell, there are around 150 orders to go out before mine comes up. He is shipping 5-10 per week so at a minimum, I’m looking at another 15 weeks. That is 11 months from my order date.  The 90 day banner on his website is a joke

Clayton just sent out an update that he has contracted with an Amish wood counter manufacturer that can scale to his baffle needs. So hopefully in about 60 days there will be a big jump from the 22 speaker pairs he was able to ship last month

Requested a refund yesterday but haven’t heard back from Clayton. Apparently, he has let go all of the people who were helping him assemble the speakers and it’s one man operation now that he is moving to Norman, OK. If he ever gets the lead time down to a reasonable time, I will reconsider ordering. In the meantime, I’m going to rewire a set of Magnepan 1.6QRs and do the Peter Gunn mod
