RIP Sly, you brought so many great listening vibes to these ears, and many others, as, the op. Some life story, for sure! Condolences to your family, friends and listeners, around the world. MrD.
I was still in high school and my girlfriend and I went to see Sly and the Family Stone at Kent State memorial gym. They were like 2 hours or more late to start the show.
But they did put on a fabulous performance.
Rumor was they had partied a bit too hard early in the day/night before and needed to recoup. This was 1971 or 72 the days before cell phones. Our parents never said a word to us about getting back in the wee hours.
Ticket prices… a high school kid working part time at a gas station could afford two tickets.
May he RIP. He sure took a royal screwing trying to get paid.
Had just saw where the band War got their star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and was reminiscing about the great funk bands from the early seventies, dove into my collection and Sly and the Family Stone album Stand was the first one pulled to play. Sly was one hell of a talent and am so sorry to hear of his passing, he will be missed but not forgotten. Enjoy the music
